Everyone knows our mothers have given us all the gift of life. But one incredible mother gave her daughter the same gift again when she agreed to be a surrogate and give birth to her grandchild. Julie Loving was 51 when she gave birth to her granddaughter Briar Lockwood on November 2, 2020.

Loving’s daughter, Breanna Lockwood, had been trying to conceive for years but had struggles with infertility. She wrote on her Instagram account that she had experienced 476 injections, 64 blood draws, 4 failed embryo transfers out of the 8 IVF frozen embryo transfers in total, 7 surgical procedures, 1 single baby miscarriage, 1 twin miscarriage, and an ectopic pregnancy during her journey.

In a beautiful display of love and sacrifice, Lockwood’s mother offered to carry a baby for her and that is how the adorable Briar Lockwood came to be. At first the family wasn’t sure it would be possible because Loving had already been through menopause, but they spoke with a doctor and their dream became a reality. Incredibly, Loving was able to conceive after the first IVF treatment using the very first embryo.

Both Loving and Lockwood couldn’t be happier now that the baby is here and she is happy and healthy. Baby Briar was 7 pounds, 1 ounce ⁣and 19.25 inches when she was born. Loving did amazing throughout the pregnancy and delivery and is also in perfect health as well. There couldn’t have been a happier ending to such a beautiful story. The family was interviewed by Good Morning America and Lockwood had the chance to share how she was feeling throughout everything. "It was definitely a surreal process. All the feelings came at once, just watching my mom go through everything and all she’s done for me and is continuing to do," Lockwood said.

"It’s been a textbook pregnancy," Loving added. "Everything’s been perfect."

The day of the actual delivery was intense but everything worked out well. "She definitely rocked the pregnancy and the birth rocked her a little bit, but she did a great job. It was a super emotional day with lots of tears and lots of happy times and some scary times but our doctors and team were great," Lockwood shared in the same interview.

Lockwood recalled how hard it was trying to conceive before they tried using a gestational carrier. She said, "Struggling with infertility was the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. When you have a plan for your life and then something like infertility gets in the way, I felt like I couldn't see what I pictured anymore, that it could be taken away from me."

Fortunately, Lockwood has an incredible mother who accomplishes anything she puts her mind to. Loving shared, "I've run 19 marathons and done many triathlons. I felt like health-wise I could do it and I had really easy pregnancies with my two kids."

Lockwood made this moving statement during her interview with Good Morning America:

"It’s really hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you’re going through infertility. But as long as you can keep telling yourself there are so many ways to become a mother, it’s not just pregnancy. There’s so many ways to become a parent, whatever option you choose."
