At fifty-years old, most women are preparing to start thinking about retirement, possibly relocating into a smaller house, and focusing on spending time with their grandchildren. But, for one woman from Naples, Florida, this was a short-lived dream when she discovered that she was pregnant!

Michele Hall is fifty-years-old and the grandmother to two precious children. After being told by doctors that she was already into menopause, Michele thought that her child-birthing days were long gone, according to People. When she began to experience some aches and pains, she quickly decided that they were either a side-effect of menopause or the lupus that she’s battled for years. But then, as the symptoms persisted, Michele decided that she would do something crazy and take a pregnancy test.
The test confirmed her underlying suspicions: The middle-aged woman was pregnant! She explains that her entire family was in total shock along with everyone she knew. Thankfully, the family was also supportive with her husband, Jerry, laughing that it makes him feel young to be expecting another child.

Michele is a medical surprise. Her OB-GYN stated that he’s never had an older patient in his three decades in the field. While Michele was handling the news of her pregnancy well, she began to have worries about the health of the unborn child. With an array of medical issues such as high blood pressure and lupus, Michele began to grow concerned that her baby would be at risk. The doctors were already talking about early C-sections since the pregnancy might give Michele a seizure.

A welcome surprise, Michele had no pregnancy complications and everything went smoothly. On December 27, Michele’s baby was delivered via C-section reports Naples Daily News. A little boy, Michele and Jerry named the child Grayson. While he was in good health, he did have a few issues such as slow heart rate, breathing problems, and sleep apnea. Although his issues resulted in a longer hospital stay, the proud parents got to take him home on January 7th.
Although having another baby was certainly not in the original plan for Michele and Jerry, they are thankful to have him and never once thought about terminating the pregnancy. While their plans to retire and take a cruise have been put on the back burner, they consider Greyson to be a blessing.
