5-Year-Old Poor Girl Walks Blind Father To Farm Every Day And Guides Him At Work

It is no surprise that this heartwarming video has gone viral. In the video, which has been shared more than 52,000 times since a five-year-old girl is seen walking her blind father through his workday.

According to CBS-ABS, The sweet girl, Jenny, is doing all that she can to help her father, Nelson Pepe. Also known as "Dodong," the father works on a coconut farm in Sogod, Southern Leyte.

Wearing a precious white dress and walking barefoot, Jenny is seen guiding Dodong using a long wooden stick. Jenny also helps her father to find his meal of crackers and water.

Despite being blind, Dodong climbs up to 60 coconut trees per day. This work earns him about Php300 per day, which is approximately $5.54 in US dollars. This meager pay is used to buy his family's bread and butter.

After this three-minute video was posted on Facebook, it quickly gained the attention of people wanting to help the family. ABS-CBN’s magazine show “Rated K" also reached out to Dodong and his family asking how they could help.

With the help of the ABS-CBN Foundation and "Rated K," Dadong was sent to Manilla to receive medical care. His condition was diagnosed as retinal detachment and retinitis pigmentosa.

The foundation also helped to move Dodong and his family to a safer location. The family was also provided with a monetary gift that was enough for Dadong to set up his own sundry store so that he could better provide for his family.
