5-Year-Old Boy Was Ashamed Of His Dwarfism Until They Rescued A Pup Who Has It, Too

Living with a chronic condition can be challenging for anyone. It’s especially hard for little kids who find the “grown-up” world of doctor’s appointments, surgeries, and medicine scary. For one little boy, navigating this complicated web got to be really, really hard – until he made a wonderful new friend. Just wait until you take a look at these touching pictures that will melt your heart.
Quaden Bales is just five years old, but he’s already had to have multiple surgeries to address his achondroplasia, which is a type of dwarfism.
His mom says that these procedures are a two-sided coin: they could either help him or even kill him. The physical challenges have been rough, but so has the bullying. It got so bad that even his family members couldn’t say the word “dwarfism” while he was in the room.

Then the Bales family adopted a nine-year-old Shih-Tzu that has dwarfism just like Quaden. They named the dog “Buddy Boy Bales.” Having this new friend has done wonders for Quaden’s confidence.
Quaden’s mom, Yarraka, said that the two friends do almost everything together. Because of Buddy Boy Bales, Quaden is proud of his dwarfism and can’t wait to tell people that his dog also has dwarfism.
They play on the couch and go to the playground together. The big smile on Quaden’s face is unmistakable. He’s delighted to have such a loyal friend. Yarraka is so happy that Buddy Boy Bales has brought joy and laughter into their household when things were sad.
She’s grateful that the family feels happy again. The family has an Instagram page, Team Quaden, where they raise awareness about dwarfism and celebrate love and acceptance.
