Race relations are sometimes a tough issue for adults to grapple with, even in our modern era when so many voices are speaking out for equality. Some of the strongest of those voices are those of the next generation. We think you'll be as touched as we are about one young boy's simple request that shows that friendship is far more than skin deep.

Jax and Reddy are inseparable friends. They love spending time together. Their racial differences are the furthest thing from their minds as they laugh, talk, and play together on a regular basis.

It may even be possible that they don't even realize those differences exist!

Jax told his mom that for his next haircut, he wanted his hair to be very short, just like his friend Reddy. Instead of just admiring his BFF's good looks, he had another reason for wanting to copy his hairstyle. Jax told his mom that if he got the same haircut as Reddy, that people might mistake them for each other.

He thought that would be pretty hilarious for his teacher and classmates to get him mixed up with his best friend!

Lydia Stith Rosebush, Jax's mother, thought this innocent request was too sweet not to share with the rest of the world. She told her friends on social media about it, and soon the story went viral.

Jax said he couldn't wait for his teacher to see him and not be able to tell him and Reddy apart.

All Jax noticed that made him and his best friend look different from one another was their hairstyle. That's why Jax assumed that once that little discrepancy was cleared up, no one could figure out which boy was which!

Though this story could be considered just a cute, funny request made by a five-year-old kid, we think there may be a deeper meaning for those who are willing to read between the lines. It goes to show that if kids aren't taught prejudice, they can realize the truth, that we're all part of the same human family.

What an inspiration for Jax and Reddy to already realize that genuine love goes beyond the surface, all the way to the heart.
