5 Ways To Date Yourself Right

Jan 02, 2019 by apost team

At some point, people become dissatisfied with their life. The dissatisfaction can result from many realities, including a lack of a sense of self or the experience of being disconnected from one's own thoughts and feelings. If this is a dilemma for you, now is the time to tap into the power of taking yourself out on a date. In this setting, you can get to know yourself, relax, and even meet new people who may eventually become your close friends. Read on to learn about strategies you can implement to make the most of taking yourself out on a date:

1. Abandon Your Electronic Devices.

If you're really serious about taking yourself on absolutely amazing dates, make sure that you abandon your electronic devices. As many know, electronic devices have acquired a ubiquitous presence in the lives of millions of people around the world. People use them at traffic lights, on the sidewalk, in the conference room, and in the elevator. While connecting with others can be a good thing, so can disconnecting from them in order to reconnect with yourself. By abandoning your electronic device for several hours, you'll be able to hear your own thoughts, think critically about where you are, and enjoy the simplicity of your external surroundings.

2. Leave Your Books At Home.

Many people are in the habit of taking a book with them when they go out to eat. Consider the value of abandoning this approach when you get ready to start dating yourself. While reading the Sunday paper in a booth or nestling with old issues of The New Yorker in a corner cafe can be enlightening, your date night with yourself is the time for you to concentrate on you. By leaving the book at home, you can focus in on your external environment, the food you're eating, and the thoughts that are circling in your head. Books, newspapers, and other forms of written media will simply serve as distractions. Abandon them so you can remain present. This way, you'll be able to truly observe and absorb the moment.

3. Ask For Recommendations.

Asking for recommendations is a wonderful way to take your date with yourself to the next level. Perusing menus can be fun, but requesting the opinion of a knowledgeable server will oftentimes increase your likelihood of finding the perfect dessert, wine, entree, etc. As such, it's a good idea to ask the staff questions about their dishes, beverages, etc.

4. Set Your Dietary Constraints Aside.

While watching what you eat can be a wonderful way to look and feel your best, operating with an attitude of restraint during your date with yourself is not always advisable. This is because thinking about things like caloric intake and whether you're consuming enough or too many carbs can prevent you from actually enjoying the food and the time you're spending with yourself. Also note that if your thought life is primarily comprised of coming up with ways to eat in an ostensibly healthy manner, your ability to focus on other things (including the wonderful taste of food or the beautiful scenery around you) is severely compromised. With these realities in mind, consider the value of ordering meals with your heart instead of your head.

Note that setting dietary constraints aside doesn't look the same for everyone. For example, people who are allergic to bread shouldn't feel compelled to order pasta or any other gluten-based entree. Be aware of your food sensitivities and allergies when you order so that you don't experience any unwanted illnesses or symptoms on your night out.

5. Be Yourself.

This suggestion might also be phrased as "Come as you are." The rationale behind the phrasing is that while you might think that dressing up and going out to eat means that you have to think and act in certain ways, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it's important to feel your feelings and remain in an authentic state of consciousness to really get the most of your experience. This is the case for many reasons, including the fact that being honest with yourself about how you feel can empower you to have a meal that lifts your spirits, keeps you calm, or contributes to mood stability. For example, if you're feeling as if the world is about to crash in all around you, you can opt for a chocolate-filled dessert.

While spending time with other people can be exciting, it can also be exhausting. Do you take yourself out on dates on a regular basis? If not, will you consider doing so more often?
