May 18, 2018 by apost team

If you're looking for an easy and oh-so-satisfying gardening project, this is it. You can easily grow a beautiful avocado tree at home with minimal effort and maximum rewards. Here's how.

1. Start From The Seed

Remove seed (also called a pit) from an avocado. Clean avocado off the seed if necessary. Then gently poke four evenly spaced toothpicks into the sides of the seed halfway down the pit. Place the pit with the toothpicks in it onto a small drinking glass, and put about an inch of water into the glass. The water should be at a level that it touches the bottom part of the pit.

Place the glass in a warm place and out of direct sunlight. After 2-6 weeks, when the stem is 6 inches tall, cut it back so that it is 3 inches tall. Let it grow to 6 inches again. There will be roots coming out of the bottom of the pit and into the water.

2. Plant In A Large Pot

Plant the avocado plant into soil in a pot that is about 10 inches in diameter. The pot needs to have drainage holes in the bottom. Make sure that when you plant the tree, the top half of the pit is exposed above the soil.

3. Nurture Your Plant

Water the avocado tree regularly so that the soil stays saturated. Check the plant daily to make sure the soil is moist enough.

4. Patiently Wait

Keep the pot in a sunny location such as near a window where plenty of sunlight is streaming in. It will take at least a couple of years for the avocado tree to have avocados on it.

5. Savor The Fruits Of Your Labor

Now it's time to literally reap the benefits of all your hard work! Gently pick an avocado off your tree. Peel it, and add it to recipes such as guacamole and smoothies. Give your avocado tree the love and attention it deserves, and it will provide you with much fruit for many years to come.

It is fun and easy to grow an avocado tree inside your home. Better yet, you will be experiencing some great benefits by eating avocados, as this fruit contains various vitamins, minerals, healthy fat and fiber. So go ahead and get started the next time you enjoy an avocado and have a pit left from it.
