Sometimes the lack of humanity in the world can seem absolutely unbelievable. One such story happened in the UK when the staff at a five-star hotel was asked if their defibrillator could be used to help an elderly man outside who was obviously having a heart attack, but they told the man that they were not allowed to let him use it.

The elderly man was shopping with his wife outside the Grosvenor shopping center when he quickly began to feel ill. According to the Liverpool Echo, a bystander named Nathan Roberts from Wirral was also shopping and noticed the man start to look ill and his wife begin to panic.

When Roberts realized what was happening, he acted quickly and ran into the Chester Grosvenor Hotel asking for the defibrillator to try and save the man's life. However, staff inside the hotel refused, saying that they did not lend out equipment.

The speedy administration of electric shock to the heart can increase chances of survival astronomically during a heart attack, says Science Daily. Emergency care during a heart attack is critical when trying to save a life. When a defibrillator is used within a few minutes of the beginning of a heart attack, the rate of survival increases dramatically.

Roberts reportedly spoke about the incident in a Facebook post where he described what happened. He went on to say that when someone's life is in danger, lending the lifesaving equipment shouldn't even be an issue.

He went on to say that if someone is unwilling to provide assistance in such a situation that it should be considered shameful. Roberts' Facebook post has been shared over 10,000 times.

Roberts acted quickly when the luxury hotel refused the defibrillator and ran around the corner to the New Blossoms Hotel where he was quickly given their defibrillator to use, the Liverpool Echo continued.

The Chester Grosvenor Hotel responded with a formal apology and statement, saying that the whole incident was due to miscommunication. They went on to say that they have lent the defibrillator many times when assistance was needed and that they would continue to help the community in any way they could.

This is a perfect example of a chain of events that could have ultimately cost an elderly man his life had it not been for the quick and thoughtful actions of Nathan Roberts. Hopefully when reading this, anyone will be quick and ready to act if ever found in a similar situation.
