Sometimes, a story is so touching that it stays with you forever. When dog owners around the globe heard about a young terminally ill girl that was seeking some love from dogs to help her cope with her condition, they stepped up to the plate and decided to send her some photographs, letters of encouragement, and packaged presents.

Emma Martens lives in Hartland, Wisconsin and has been suffering from an extremely rare tumor in her brain, referred to as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. These letters and other gifts that she began receiving were meant to keep her motivated and happy while she dealt with her condition. Although she goes through chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments, doctors still believe that her condition is terminal.

Her family is eternally grateful for the number of letters that have poured in with support for their daughter Emma. When word got out about her condition, they received over 80,000 letters, photographs, and packages that make their daughter smile! But when the local police stations heard about Emma’s prognosis, they decided to surprise her with something completely different.

On one Saturday, the officers from 40 separate departments of police decided to come to Emma’s house and line up outside. But what did they bring with them? None other than their K9 companions for Emma to meet! These dogs are normally serious creatures with the intent to protect and serve, but they were given the day off to enjoy themselves and play with the young girl.

Pictures captured the joyous occasion, and you can see how happy Emma is to meet with all the dogs and their officers. With Emma’s passion for canines, she will now be remembered as an animal lover and a friend to all different kinds of dogs, no matter what their breed! Emma’s parents were once again grateful that the officers took the time out of their busy days to meet with their daughter.

They knew how much it meant to her, and sometimes the smallest gestures make the biggest impact. But that wasn’t the only surprise the officers had for Emma. They each gifted her stuffed K9 toys to play with and cuddle up to, and her parents even noted that even when she was too sick to do anything, she still played with these stuffed animals!
