4-Year-Old Hospitalized 25 Times Finds Best Friend In Janitor Who Cleans The Boy's Hospital Room

When you’re only four-years-old and have been hospitalized over 25 times, you learn that every moment and person you choose to spend them with is precious. Perhaps, that explains the unlikely friendship that formed between Cooper Baltzell and a children’s hospital janitor.

Cooper Baltzell has a rare genetic condition that left him missing some nerves in his large intestine. It’s called Hirschsprung’s disease, and it’s caused Cooper to be hospitalized over 25 times and undergo several surgeries. For a four-year-old, young Cooper is quite precocious and outgoing.

During hospital stays, Cooper doesn’t like to be shut up in his assigned room. He frequently gets in his wagon, drives down the halls, and passes out candy to employees.

This is how he met Gregory Watson, a 57-year-old janitor at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, in 2018. Cooper asked Gregory if he wanted a piece of candy, and the rest is history.

From that moment on, Gregory attended to Cooper’s room. The two talk, laugh, and like to share snacks like popcorn. Cooper even asked for a mini set of cleaning tools to be just like his pal.

In his nine years of working at the hospital, Gregory has never had such a connection with a patient. He calls Cooper the “coolest” kid he’s ever met. Gregory deserves his own slap on the back for his half of this friendship.

Thanks to friendly and loving people like Gregory, these difficult hospital stays are a little easier for patients to endure. Watch the video below to see the two in action and find out how this friendship is going on even though Cooper has been released from the hospital.
