4-Year-Old Captures Hearts With His Retelling Of The Story Of Christmas

Dec 22, 2020 by apost team

At four-and-a-half years old, David DeFigueiredo from Northborough, Massachusetts, is capturing hearts all over the Internet with his narration of the nativity scene of Jesus Christ from the Bible. To have an adorable little boy telling the story of the birth of Jesus Christ would be enough to melt the hearts of a single village, but young David does not just recite the verses that come from the Gospel of Luke, he narrates them all by heart, and the piece of scripture is not really a short one either. After being posted on December 16th, 2020, the little boy has been touching hearts across the world.

The passage which David narrates in the video, the King James Version of the second chapter of Luke, verses six through 16, is 248 words long (yes, we counted) and he even adds a special ending. His parents, Becky Dayton DeFigueiredo and Ryan DeFigueiredo posted the video of David to Facebook on Tuesday, December 14th, where it has currently been shared over 254,000 times and has garnered over 72,000 reactions.

“When a friend asked David to narrate their live nativity I asked him to read these verses twice in the morning and twice at night,” wrote one of David’s parents in the caption. “A few weeks later I realized he no longer needed the paper. Starting and ending our day with this beautiful story has brought the spirit of Christmas into our home and reminded us of the true meaning of Christmas.”

Some people may find having to repeat stories to be boring, but not David! He knows that reading for a live nativity is an important role to have, and he takes it seriously (as you can tell by the intent expression on his face in the video). David looked dapper as he donned a red sweater with a white shirt underneath, and had his hair styled neatly. When the video starts you can hear his dad Ryan is heard saying “Go,” as David proceeds to say, “Luke two, six through sixteen.”

For those who may not know, the Christmas story is one of Christianity's most important stories. Every year, the nativity scene is reenacted and pictured across the world during Christmas time to celebrate the day Jesus Christ was born. The significance is that the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable after Joseph and Mary's difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem is considered the coming of a new King for the world. Mary was heavily pregnant during the journey, and after arriving in Bethlehem, Mary and Joseph could not find a place to stay. After knocking on many doors and being turned away, they finally are welcomed into a stable where Mary gave birth to Jesus. The story explains that when Jesus was born, a star was spotted by 3 shepherds, after which an Angel approached them to tell them of Jesus' birth. The shepherds then followed the bright star, which led them to the stable where Jesus Christ, Mary, and Joseph were resting.

The story continues that three Kings arrived at the stable days later to give gifts to Jesus Christ. The Kings had heard that the King of Kings was born and wanted to pay their respects to baby Jesus. They also brought him gifts fit for a king, such as frankincense, myrrh, and gold. There are many lessons people learn from this story, such as always being kind to strangers, lend a helping hand to people in need, and that one's background does not define them.

The nativity scene gives Christians around the world the opportunity to take time out to display this important moment in their homes or establishments. From hospitals to schools and businesses, a person can find the Nativity scene of Mary, Joseph, and the three shepherds surrounding baby Jesus in a stable surrounded by animals, looking in on the glowing newborn in every continent. The story of Jesus Christ's birth brings together the whole world during Christmas, and by partaking in telling the story of Jesus Christ, many people feel closer to their families as well as their religion. The veil is lifted, and people are reminded of the true meaning of Christmas once again: it doesn't really have to mean presents and pizazz but embodying the spirit of generosity and kindness in their lives.

Little David is certainly someone who loves the story and finds joy in telling it. His eager eyes and voice are contagious! Though he has a hard time recalling the next part of the verse halfway through the video, he recovers quickly and continues with even more determination and vigor. Even after he reached the end of the scripture, David was not done and he adds an extra part that is most meaningful for him.

It is no wonder why the video has appealed to so many people. From his intent expressions to his adorable stances — having his hands placed in his pockets and swaying as he recited the scripture — the preschooler was sure to become a hit.

Viewers by the thousands took to the comments section to praise David’s mom and dad for a job well done on raising him, and to simply rave about how sweet and cute the little boy is. “He made my day,” wrote one Diane LeGear. “What a cute little guy. Good to see someone so young able to memorize his Christmas scripture.”

As it turns out, this is not the first time David has appeared on social media telling the story of Christmas! Back in December 2018, a two-year-old David is seen dressed in a suit with a bowtie, passionately narrating the story (albeit only in two verses). Being just two, some of the words proved a little tricky for David to enunciate but he does it with so much gusto and cuteness, you would not even notice. Oh, and this had been narrated by heart, too!

But that’s not all! Another video, posted by his mom Becky on Facebook in May 2019, shows David displaying his knack for memorizing yet again as he recited The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States. David, who was probably about three years old in the video, is seen holding the national flag of the United States in one hand, while he had his right hand over his heart. We wonder what he will narrate next!

What do you think of David's narration? If you were as impressed as we were, be sure to pass the Christmas spirit along!
