Queen Elizabeth II has been the reigning monarch since 1952. 1. She Never Went To School

Insider reported that although the queen never formally went to school, she was taught by private tutors at home.

2. Partying In London

Along with her sister Margaret, the queen went out to party and celebrated the end of World War II on May 8, 1945, and recalled feeling “a tide of happiness and relief.”

3. Her Corgis

Her Majesty has owned more than 30 corgis throughout her lifetime. She was given her very first one on her 18th birthday, as per Insider.

4. Broken Tiara

On her wedding day, the queen’s tiara snapped, and the court jeweler was immediately summoned to patch it up, according to Town & Country.

5. Family Romance

Insider reported that the queen and her late husband Prince Philip were actually related, as they were third cousins. They are both related to Queen Victoria, with the current queen’s relationship stemming from her father’s side and Philip’s relationship stemming from his mother’s side.

6. Birthday Celebrations

The queen was born on April 21, 1926, but monarchs typically celebrate their birthdays when the weather is much nicer. While the queen celebrates on her actual birthday, she also celebrates with the rest of the country on June 11 each year.

 The Telegraph reported that the queen carried out 341 royal engagements in 2015. This was more than the amount that Prince WilliamKate Middleton, and Prince Harry combined carried out that same year.

8. Overseas

While she’s definitely carried out her duties in England, the queen has also made over 260 overseas trips during her time on the throne.

9. Message To The Moon

“On behalf of the British people, I salute the skill and courage which have brought man to the moon,” she wrote in her message to the moon.

11. Legal Documents

While she’s been spotted in a Range Rover before, the queen actually doesn’t have a driver’s license since she technically doesn’t need one, as per Insider.

The queen learned how to drive in April 1945, as per BBC News.

14. Paying Taxes

According to the royal family website, the queen doesn’t have to pay taxes, but she has been voluntarily doing so since 1993.

BBC News reported that the queen’s official title is Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.

The letter stands for Regina, which means Queen in Latin, according to Harper’s Bazaar.

17. New York Residency

In 2015, the queen purchased a $7.9 million apartment near the United Nations headquarters in New York City, as per Business Insider.

18. Pricey Poet

Insider reported that not only does the queen appoint the UK’s poet laureate, but she also pays them with a yearly salary of about $7,000 and an entire barrel of sherry.

20. Christening

BBC News reported that she was christened with water from Jordan, a typical tradition for royal christenings.

According to Express, the queen can fluently speak both English and French.
