3-Year-Old Leads Preschool Class In Heartfelt Prayer

Videos of school-age children praying before public school and at preschools and private schools are highly praised and often become viral sensations with commentary from parents wishing their child could do the same. That was exactly the case when Missouri preschooler Makhi Martin led his class in prayer over their lunch earlier this year.

It's been almost 60 years since the Supreme Court ruled that school-sponsored prayer in public schools violates the First Amendment. Yet almost every poll and survey since that time has consistently shown the majority of Americans support school prayer, according to Gallup.

Ranisha Martin was at her son’s private Christian preschool in St. Louis, Missouri, to surprise him with a special treat for his third birthday, reports USA Today. They had no idea that it would be a day media outlets across the country, including Good Morning America and The Ellen Show, would air to the world.

Makhi Martin is an adorable kid, and he’s all smiles over the blue cupcakes his mom brought to school. It may have been his birthday, but he gave the world a precious gift that day.

During lunch, Martin got a huge surprise. Thankfully, his mom caught it on video for us all to enjoy. Her sweet son stood proudly and confidently as he led his teacher, Mrs. James, and his classmates in blessing the food they were about to eat. He even remembered to ask God to bless all the boys and girls all over the world, not just in his class.

Martin’s mom knew her son was smart. After all, she says he recalls all the names of the dinosaurs and interesting facts about them. So, it wasn’t shocking he could remember the components of his prayer, but this was the first time she’d ever heard him pray so clearly at school.

Ranisha shared the video on social media, and it quickly stole the hearts of millions. Thousands of comments were left, many wishing that all children had the opportunity to pray at all schools.

The same type of support and admiration was expressed in another viral school prayer video. This one took place before school as three children belonging to Jamisha Harris joined hands to pray before they boarded the bus for their first day of school back in 2019. As commentary on this story points out, parents can still include prayer in the lives of children even if their schools do not allow it.
