When you hear stories about missing children, most of us get a sickening feeling. You know they just aren't capable of taking care of themselves as their parents do.

You wonder if they would even know how to get help. And, if they were able to call 911, would they be able to tell someone where they are? You also wonder if they know who they need to avoid and if they are aware of people that can help them. Unfortunately, most of the time, they aren't.

I can't even begin to think of what the grandmother of Casey Hathaway was going through. Casey was only three years old when he went missing. He was playing outside with two other children in Ernul, North Carolina. When playtime ended, the two other kids came back inside but Casey didn't return.

His grandmother searched for over 45 minutes and didn't find him anywhere. This is when she decided to call 911 and report him missing.

Chip Hughes, the Sheriff in Craven County, stated that Casey was not dressed appropriately for weather conditions at the time of his disappearance. Hughes remembers being very concerned about ditches that collect deep water and sinkholes in the area. He was afraid that one of these things could have been the cause of his disappearance.

Search efforts continued as divers became involved. Ponds in the area were evaluated. The weather began to turn bad quickly as the hours passed. As Wednesday afternoon approached, state investigators, US. Marines Corps and the FBI joined into the search.

Finally, Casey was found. He was found alive on Thursday at an intersection, a couple of roads away

Shane Grier, EMS Cpt of Chocowinity, had received a tip and began investigating. This is when he heard Casey. He was trapped in some briars. Grier was able to free him pretty quickly. Casey was quickly sent into Caroline East Medical Center. He was then evaluated and treated. His expected release date was January 26th.

His evaluation proved that he was in a good condition despite what he had been through. Hughes stated that he acted like any little boy should have.

His aunt, who had kept everyone updated on the situation through her Facebook page was the first to inform people that Casey had been found.

"Miracles do happen," she said.

Although everyone is relieved that Casey was found, he is sure to face some kind of consequences for his actions. But, his reason for going missing would make almost anyone smile. His story is that he was hanging out with a bear for the last two days.

After the incident, his mother went on to tell everyone just how grateful and thankful she was for his safe return. She goes into further detail about how he is doing and said that he is well. He has already been asking to watch Netflix, she says.

Can you imagine being in Casey's parents' position? It must be the worst feeling in the world if your child is missing! Let us know what you thought about this story and be sure to spread the word about little Casey!
