3-Year-Old Boy Gets Sent Hundreds Of Sweet Birthday Cards During Battle With Leukemia
Jul 03, 2019 by apost team
It is truly a tragic situation when anyone is faced with having to battle a serious disease. That situation becomes even more tragic when the person facing that disease happens to be a child. Children are so precious and innocent, and we can’t help but wonder why a child would have to face such a serious disease at such a young and tender age. Children should be out playing with friends and learning new things in school, not confined to a hospital bed where they are forced to undergo continuing treatments where they struggle to survive on a daily basis.
This was true for one little boy named Freddie. Freddie was born with Down syndrome. When he was two years old, Freddie was also diagnosed with leukemia. It just doesn’t seem fair to pile those things on such a sweet, young boy. After being diagnosed, Freddie underwent four rounds of chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy is incredibly difficult on adults, so one can’t imagine how difficult it must be on a two-year-old boy who is also living with Down syndrome. However, Freddie pushed through all four rounds of chemotherapy and came out as happy and healthy as possible. But his parents and doctors know that Freddie still has a long road of treatment ahead of him.

Freddie was turning three and after battling leukemia, his mom, Joanne, wanted to make sure that his third birthday was something truly special. She made a request for birthday cards earlier in the month, hoping that she would receive a few special cards to give to Freddie.
She couldn’t believe the outpouring of love she received as hundreds of birthday cards streamed in to support Freddie on his third birthday.
Joanne received so many cards wishing Freddie a happy birthday that she actually had to set up a special mailing address.
She named the special mailing address “Team Freddie.”
Some people even sent Freddie gifts to support his journey. Joanne says that she and Freddie open and read the cards together. The best news is that Freddie and his mom found out he will be able to go home just days before his third birthday!
