A baby girl in India beat the odds after she survived being buried alive. The story begins on October 10 in the city of Bareilly. Hitesh and Vaishali Kumar visited a cemetery in the city after their daughter was stillborn.
As the couple watched their daughter being buried, they began to hear the cries of a newborn. At first, Hitesh and Vaishali thought the cries were coming from their own child, but soon found that a newborn baby girl had been buried in the cemetery in a clay pot.
Speaking with the Times of India, Hitesh said that upon finding out that the little one was alive, he immediately called for an ambulance, pleading with law enforcement to do everything in their power to save the baby’s life.
Rescuers quickly took the child to the newborn care unit of Maharana Pratap District Hospital, where, miraculously, doctors were able to save her. The child will have to spend a long time in the hospital’s intensive care unit as she suffers from respiratory issues and infections.

Police immediately began an investigation into how the infant was buried alive. Examining the gravesite, police officers told the New York Post that the hole was only three feet deep. After interviewing the cemetery guard, who said that he saw the parents of the little girl there earlier, authorities further determined that the child had been buried for about six hours.
The child’s small size might also be the reason why she was able to survive her ordeal. If the child had been bigger, law enforcement theorizes that she would have suffocated before she was found. Harishchandra Joshi, an official with the Subhashnagar police, says that authorities are checking CCTV footage from a nearby crematorium in the hopes of identifying the parents and anyone else involved in burying the little girl alive.
