25-Year-Old Mother Delivers Twins In March — Gives Birth To Another Set In December In 2019

For Alexzandria Wolliston, a resident of West Palm Beach in Florida, 2019 will be a year she will always remember. She not only got pregnant twice but also gave birth to twins both times. The first set of twins born in March were boys, and the second visit to the delivery room resulted in twin girls. In various interviews, Wolliston has made something very clear: She is done having babies, but she has also learned a few interesting things along the way. This year, Wolliston started a GoFundMe and a YouTube channel to raise money and update the public regarding her two sets of twins.

While having twins is quite rare — according to Dr. Michael Cackovic, a medical professor, the odds are about 3 percent — there are some communities where having twins is more likely. In an interview with Today, Cackovic gave the example of Igbo-Ora, Nigeria, which has one of the highest rates of twin births in the world. Today further reports that Wolliston's grandmothers had twins that were tragically lost at birth or during infancy, so she feels that she was blessed with the opportunity to extend the family.

Wolliston's baby boys, Kaylen and Kayleb, do not seem to be identical; however, her younger baby girls will probably look the same as they grow older, but this is not guaranteed. Obstetricians and geneticists continue to be puzzled by twins for various reasons. For example, one interesting fact is that the DNA makeup of identical twins can be as high as 99 percent, but their fingerprints will always be different, according to the Huffington Post.

In terms of physical appearance, looks can vastly change over the years because of multiple factors. For some reason, twins are more likely in mothers who are older, have used fertility treatments, have a higher BMI, and have a family history of twin births, according to Dr. Thomas Molinaro, a reproductive endocrinologist who spoke with Today.

As of this year, Wolliston has updated the public regarding her two sets of twins via GoFundMe, where she started a campaign to raise $10,000 for her family, and on YouTube, where she has posted two vlogs.
