The Miss America competition has had to seriously overhaul their branding to fit into the modern age. Luckily, the new set of contestants seems completely on board. In particular, one self-professed "quirky scientist" contestant decided to use her education and intelligence to her advantage in her presentation.

Camille Schrier, Miss Virginia

Camille Schrier is a 24-year-old student who is studying to be a Doctor of Pharmacy, reports the BBC. She goes to school at Virginia Commonwealth University. She runs a program called "Mind Your Meds" which promotes the safe use of prescription medication.

In June of 2019, Camille was crowned Miss Virginia, securing her place in the Miss America competition.

A Colorful Display of Talent

When Camille took the stage for her talent display, gone was the glittery dress that she wore when she was introduced by her career aspirations. Instead, she was dressed in yellow heels, sparkling leggings, a lab coat, and a pink pair of lab goggles.

Camille's display was called The Catalytic Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide. She started her presentation by saying that "science is all around us." Camille's upbeat energy quickly had the audience intrigued as she explained how hydrogen peroxide works. Suddenly, she dumped a catalyst into three vials full of hydrogen peroxide, food coloring, and dish soap.

The vials sent out huge streams of colored foam while the audience cheered. Camille finished her presentation, but it was clear that she'd already won.

The New Face of Miss America

For her interview question, Camille was asked how she would handle anyone who mocked the Miss America title, the BBC reports. Her answer was snappy and sassy enough to win the competition.

Camille said that by being a woman of science and redefining the Miss America title, she had already dealt with those who might harass her. Miss America is no longer just about being pretty; it's about being someone who young girls can look up to.

Miss America has been completely rebranded, and Camille is the first winner of the new Miss America 2.0. With more winners like her, Miss America could be around for years to come.

Camille is smart, pretty, and great at explaining science. Do you think she's a good choice for the new Miss America? Offer your thoughts below and spread this story to those you think might find it interesting.
