Being a new mom is a stressful and overwhelming job, and going to college is just as exhausting; when you put the two together, you’ve got a challenge that is beyond the ability of most human beings. But, despite the tremendous obstacles, a single mom in Florida took on the task of completing college to get not one but two degrees – all after giving birth to twins!
Here name is Montoya Major and she is a 23-year-old student who is about to graduate from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Thanks to a tremendous amount of hard work and perseverance, the young mom will be graduating with both a bachelor’s degree in cardiovascular sonography and a master’s degree in health science, reports The Today Show.
While these would be difficult degrees for many students to tackle, Montoya managed to earn them both while pregnant with and then caring for her new twins. The twin girls were born in the midst of Montoya's studies and will be one-year-old when they celebrate their mom’s accomplishments at her mid-August graduation ceremony.

Coming as a complete surprise, Montoya found out that she was pregnant only five months after she had started her classes at the Nova Southeastern school. While we are all amazed by Montoya’s abilities to accomplish so much, she admits the program was a struggle.
Although Montoya might have been the only student pregnant with twins, she obviously was not the only one who struggled to keep the course. In a program that started out with 26 students, she is one of 17 that have finished the program and will be graduating.
Montoya went on to describe her struggles and the stress that she was dealt as she tried to determine what direction to take after discovering she was going to give birth. She recounts that her program director advised taking some time off and then coming back to school the next year; however, Montoya became determined to do as much schoolwork as possible before her little girls were born.
Ultimately, Montoya decided to go forward with the program and attended every day of class during her pregnancy, up until the day that her twins were delivered through C-section. While missing work is a given for new moms, missing school is not, so Montoya was back in class within one week of the delivery.
Ultimately, Montoya managed to pull her way through school and has now earned two degrees. While her daughters made things more difficult initially, Montoya now credits them with providing the incentive she needed to keep moving forward. She obviously wants to provide the best life for them and strives to make them proud.
Montoya was up against new struggles since she was in Florida all alone with few friends and no family to help her. Despite this, she still says that she received support from friends from her hometown and from her father. Montoya reports that she and her dad are incredibly close and that he has been very encouraging as she struggles to reach her dreams. We are sure that he is so proud of his little girl now!
Following graduation, Montoya plans to move herself and her little girls back to Mobile, Alabama where she is originally from so that she can be near her family. We’re sure that her dad and other family members are anxious to get to spend time with the adorable twins.
Montoya has been up against significant odds and she provides an inspiration to us all. She is proof that hard work and determination do pay off and that, no matter what you’re up against, success is possible!
