22-Year-Old Shauna Rae Feels 'Stuck' In The Body Of An 8-Year-Old And Opens Up About Her Mom Getting 'Negative Attention'

Everyone wants some type of independence. It’s what helps us grow into the person we are meant to be and can help us overcome any obstacles that may come our way. However, one woman is finding this concept to be pretty tricky to navigate, given the fact that she still looks very much like a child despite being an adult.

Shauna Rae is 22 years old, but you wouldn’t know it just by looking at her. Her height was stunted early on, leaving her to be very short for her age, so much so that she essentially resembles an 8-year-old child. She lives in Pennsylvania with her parents and her two sisters.

When Shauna was a baby, she was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent rounds of chemotherapy. Although the chemotherapy saved Shauna’s life, it stopped her from growing. Decades later, she is still much shorter than the average height of a woman her age and still looks very childlike.

The new TLC series “I Am Shauna Rae” follows the story of Shauna and shares what a typical day in her life looks like. As someone who is a grown adult, she wants to be able to date, get tattoos, go out for a drink and have some independence. However, her physical appearance makes it hard to live the adult life she desperately yearns to have.

She gets attention no matter what she does or where she goes, and her mother also gets negative attention from strangers. Her family is still very protective of the 22-year-old woman. Still, Shauna is determined to live her life to the fullest.

The TLC series “I Am Shauna Rae” premieres on Jan. 11, 2022, and is set to give viewers an inside look into Shauna’s life. In the trailer for “I Am Shauna Rae,” Shauna gave some insight into her life goals and aspirations as someone yearning to become more independent.

“I’m a woman, a 22-year-old woman stuck in the body of an 8-year-old,” she said. “Even though I physically can’t grow up, I desperately want to be treated like a grown-up.” She added, “I’m working on my independence.”

According to Distractify, Shauna was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer when she was six months old and given chemotherapy treatments. Although the treatments helped, they stopped her from growing. “My pituitary gland was rendered almost dormant because of the chemotherapy,” Shauna said. “The doctor told me I was done growing. My bones were fused, and my height is 3 feet and 10 inches.”

Since she has the outward appearance of a child, she receives plenty of attention wherever she goes and whatever she does. When it comes to makeup, Shauna said she doesn’t do a full-face and usually uses “just eyeshadow and mascara,” according to the Daily Mail. “I think whether I’m dressed up or not, I get attention,” she said. “I think when I’m dressed up and I have makeup on, my mom gets negative attention.”

Shauna said that dating is also a constant challenge, according to Distractify. Even her parents have a hard time letting their 22-year-old daughter live on her own. “I can’t go anywhere without them asking questions,” Shauna said. Still, the 22-year-old woman is determined to become more independent as time goes on.
