2-Year-Old With Terminal Cancer Left With Weeks To Live, So Neighbors Decorate For Christmas Early

I don’t always approve of the local stores setting out their Christmas wares early. It seems like just another marketing ploy meant to sell as much as they can, months before the actual holiday. Who really needs reindeer and snowflakes in July?

However, there was one early celebration that I approved of 100% when I heard of it. That was the celebration that occurred in Colerain Township, Ohio, for little Brody Allen, a 2-year-old with terminal cancer.

Doctors initially believed that the problem the young child was having was just ear infections that wouldn't go away. However, as doctors investigated, they came across a number of masses in his brain.

They realized that Brody had an aggressive form of cancer known as embryonal tumor with multilayered rosettes, or ETMR. This disease typically only afflicts younger children.

Brody’s family told CBS News that the little boy started chemotherapy treatments immediately. But even after multiple treatments over a series of months, his condition didn’t improve.

Brody’s family was faced with an awful truth after the doctors found a fifth tumor: their toddler was not going to live much longer.

McKenzie, his 21-year-old sister, told CBS that he cannot walk anymore and has lost the use of his left arm. He did, however, teach himself how to crawl again.

Brody stopped taking treatments August 4th. He was given just two months to live.

Brody loves Christmas and all of the fun and excitement that comes with the season. When his parents realized he wasn’t likely to make it to this next Christmas, they asked for donations from the public. They wanted to decorate their home for Brody and celebrate Christmas in September.

The community quickly jumped to decorate their own homes for the little boy. Neighbors put up Christmas lights outside and one even put out their inflatable Santa Claus.

His mother, Shilo, said that Brody was excited to see the decorations as they drove by. The best part? No one actually organized this chain of events. The town just spontaneously came together to put up a display for the young child.

Ryan Miller, the owner of Cincy Xmas Lights, was surprised when he saw the display. He told WKRC that there was only one house lit up the first time he drove by, and then a whole lot more houses were lit up by the next day.

Young Brody is more than delighted over the whole display. His family tells us that the decorations make him so happy.

McKenzie says seeing the Christmas lights outside and the tree inside makes him ecstatic every single day.
