2 Pilots Fly Over 1500 Miles To Save More Than 20 Dogs At Kill Shelter With Only Hours Left To Live

Jun 08, 2019 by apost team

Peyton Lindbloom and Dan Weecks are two pilots that care a lot about something that is dear to a lot of us: unwanted dogs. Millions of men and women do all they can to rescue unwanted dogs from being put down.

However, these two really go all out in their efforts.

Both men happen to be private pilots. When they heard about 23 puppies that were about to be euthanized in a shelter in Mobile Alabama, they knew they had to step in. However, Alabama is about 1,500 miles away from Lindbloom's and Weecks' home state of Arizona. What could they possibly do to help?

The shelter that first posted about the puppies, Follow Your Heart, reached out to the two men for help. They knew that Weecks had just come back from a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona, to rescue nine puppies that were about to be put down.

However, this mission was a little bigger in scope.

The men knew they had to do everything they could to get to the puppies. At 6 a.m. on November 1st, 2017, they got into their small plane. Not only was it a long distance, but the costs would be huge.

The pilots both chipped in to pay the $6,901.51 bill that the flight cost. The remaining amount was paid by Follow Your Heart and the Third Coast Animal Rescue volunteer rescue.

The dogs were thought to be unadoptable, according to volunteer Cheryl Edwards' statement to WALA-TV:

“This lovely rescue is going to take care of that, and we couldn’t be more thankful.”

Even though Lindbloom's and Weecks have rescued dogs before, this particular mission was their most significant one yet, not just for the huges distance the pilots had to travel but also for the sheer number of dogs they had to save: 23 dogs were scheduled for execution, most of them puppies.

Thanks to the pilots tireless efforts, all 23 puppies were saved.

You can watch Weecks' YouTube channel “Puppy Pilots” to learn more about the two pilots and their noble mission. Weecks chronicles his attempts to save dogs on the channel.

“It’s the right thing to do, so that’s why we are here. That’s why we are rescuing dogs, and we hope with continued support we can continue to save lives”, he says in the video dealing with his biggest mission so far.
