2 Days Before Cop Passes Aways, He Met With Boy Whose Biggest Dream Was To Be Just Like Him

One of the greatest things about childhood is the sense of innocence it brings. We all had big dreams about what we wanted to be as a grown-up. Maybe you wanted to be a movie star or play in the NFL. Or it was your dream to be a firefighter and ride around in that big, red truck with sirens blaring. Some people dream of being a police officer. If you're really lucky, you even get to meet an adult who takes the time to talk with you about your dreams.

According to WTVC,  that's what happened one day, not too long ago, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A mom, Kari Snyder, had taken the opportunity to go on a tour of the Chattanooga Police Services Center with her children. Her nine-year-old son, Jason, was just blown away by all the friendly police officers he had a chance to meet.

One officer, in particular, made a huge impression. Officer Nicholas Galinger by chance was walking down the hallway, carrying some paperwork. Kari and her children had a wonderful time talking with Galinger, who was patient and answered all the questions the kids had. Jason told Officer Galinger that he wanted to be a police officer someday, too. Jason asked the friendly officer what it was like to be a police officer, and Galinger assured him that it wasn't too tough. Galinger wished Jason good luck with his future career.

Two days later, Kari and Jason were watching the news. They saw the heartbreaking story that Officer Nicholas Galinger had just died. The approachable and smiling police officer who had taken extra time and care with Kari's children? Sadly, he'd just passed away in service to his city of Chattanooga. Galinger was killed by a car while working as a police officer.

Jason was truly heartbroken when he heard about the tragedy. Other people in the community shared their memories of Officer Galinger, as well. He had built a reputation for being friendly and helpful, always putting people first.

'My son now has a lot of questions and is heartbroken because of what happened to Officer Galinger.', Kari Snyder told  WTVC

To pay their respects, the Chattanooga Police Department turned out in full force for Galinger's funeral on March 1, 2019. Sadly, Officer Galinger's family and friends had just gathered to celebrate Nicholas Galinger graduating from the police academy on January 24, 2019.

According to CPD, Galinger was only 38 years old when he passed away while serving his city. While Officer Galinger served on the force just a short time, he will be remembered for his compassion for others and service to his community.
