It's one thing to walk into an American Idol audition and show a powerful voice, but it's even harder to believe when you're 17-years-old and trying to perform a song by the legendary Johnny Cash!

Johnny Cash's resonant bass voice has been critically acclaimed and praised throughout the histories of country and pop music, having been able to luxuriously combine narrative with song to become a true American storyteller. His song and singing styles have both become iconic both for their uniqueness and also their difficulty to replicate accurately.

However, this teenager was intent on proving these precedents wrong immediately. The 18-year-old Josiah Siska from Dacula, Georgia, started singing "Ghost Riders in the Sky" and instantly impressed the judges with his deep, calling voice.

Not only is he able to access that deep, deep range, but he's also able to shape a lot of character out of it, showing how personal his musicality can be. Through performing a song about a tall tale can feel incredibly isolating, Josiah made it feel intimate, up-close, and hushed.

The judges were shocked by how much character the teenager was getting out of his low range—Harry Connick, Jr. was even surprised, saying that he has never heard anything like it!

To make this story even more heartwarming, on the other side of the audition doors stood Josiah's family, who were happy to offer their support and also see how well it was going for their son on the in-house TVs.

Since this performance, Josiah's singing has gone on to become internet famous, and deservedly so! Johnny Cash would surely be proud.
