This month marks the nine-year anniversary of Kate Middleton becoming the Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William on April 29, 2011. From passing-out parades to roller discos, here are 17 photos of Kate before and after she became a member of the royal family.

Kate and her parents attended the Sovereign's Parade at Sandhurst Military Academy to watch her then-boyfriend William's passing-out parade in 2006. Her and her mother, Carole, looked very chic in their coats and hats which matched the Queen's outfit that day.

The future Duchess was glowing at the wedding of Laura Parker-Bowles and Harry Lopes in Wiltshire. According to Town & Country, this was the start of her hat moments.

When she was 25 years old, Kate was persuaded by a Sisterhood member Alicia Fox-Pitt, to join their all-female rowing team. They were poised to become the first all-women crew to cross the Channel in a traditional Chinese dragon boat.

The on-off girlfriend of Prince William went training on the Thames as part of the 21-strong crew in preparation for the Cross Channel Challenge.

Kate made headlines for this event when she fell while rollerskating. But she had managed to get to her feet with a smile on her face after her tumble and was smiling even when she was on the ground –1 like a true (ahem) queen.

The Order of the Garter is one of the oldest royal traditions. It was founded by King Edward III in 1348, and the royal mom of three made her debut at the prestigious event back in 2008 when she and Prince William were dating.

William had also received his Order of the Garter knighthood that year, so it was a momentous occasion.

In 2009, she made a surprise appearance at the Tenacity Of The Tasman documentary film premiere at Odeon Leicester Square. 

She looked effortlessly gorgeous a green slip dress as she watched Will play in the Chakravarty Cup polo match ten years ago.

The couple will celebrate their ninth wedding anniversary on April 29. Though we don’t see much of the lovebirds’ public display affection due to royal protocol, it’s obvious that they absolutely adore each other. 

When they became engaged in 2010, the couple offered some insight on their romance, with William saying of his future wife:

"Obviously we both have a very fun time together, both have a very good sense of humor about things, we're down to earth, we take the mickey out of each other a lot, and she's got plenty of habits that make me laugh that I tease her about."

This was the biggest gathering of the Royal Family since her wedding and also the biggest gathering in which she wore white since then.

The tour was followed by more than 1,300 accredited media. It included the first use of the Duke of Cambridge's royal standard for Canada, the first Canadian citizenship ceremony attended by royalty, Canada Day ceremonies attended by approximately 800,000 people, and many smaller events across the country.

She showed her sporty side on her visit to Olympic Park in 2012. Having been captain of the first XI hockey team at school, the Duchess of Cambridge didn't hesitate show off her skills.

William and Kate had a go at abseiling through the rainforest on the island of Borneo during their Diamond Jubilee Tour of the Far East and South Pacific in 2012.

Kate is seen holding baby George as he goes to interact with other babies. The prince showed all the qualities of a future King as he crawled into the center of the room. As one parent there said: "He honed in on certain toys and took the ones that he wanted.

Kate really rocked her bangs in this photo but the winning bit is her signature megawatt smile.

The Duchess wore a blue and white shift dress for her visit to the Taj Mahal, where she and Prince William recreated Princess Diana's iconic photo. 

Kate is known to take into consideration her clothing and accessories when visiting different countries. The dress she wore here was made by an Indian designer, Naeem Khan.

The sporty Duchess had an attempt at Bhutan's national sport after watching a competitive archery game during the royal tour in 2016.

Despite suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, the then-pregnant Duchess Kate was spotted dancing and laughing at Paddington Station with the beloved Paddington Bear.
