This month marks the nine-year anniversary of Kate Middleton becoming the Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William on April 29, 2011. From passing-out parades to roller discos, here are 17 photos of Kate before and after she became a member of the royal family.

Kate and her parents attended the Sovereign's Parade at Sandhurst Military Academy to watch her then-boyfriend William's passing-out parade in 2006. Her and her mother, Carole, looked very chic in their coats and hats which matched the Queen's outfit that day.

The future Duchess was glowing at the wedding of Laura Parker-Bowles and Harry Lopes in Wiltshire. According to Town & Country, this was the start of her hat moments.

Training For Sisterhood Cross Channel Rowing Challenge 2007

When she was 25 years old, Kate was persuaded by a Sisterhood member Alicia Fox-Pitt, to join their all-female rowing team. They were poised to become the first all-women crew to cross the Channel in a traditional Chinese dragon boat.

The on-off girlfriend of Prince William went training on the Thames as part of the 21-strong crew in preparation for the Cross Channel Challenge.

Kate made headlines for this event when she fell while rollerskating. But she had managed to get to her feet with a smile on her face after her tumble and was smiling even when she was on the ground –1 like a true (ahem) queen.

Order Of The Garter Service 2008

The Order of the Garter is one of the oldest royal traditions. It was founded by King Edward III in 1348, and the royal mom of three made her debut at the prestigious event back in 2008 when she and Prince William were dating.

The couple will celebrate their ninth wedding anniversary on April 29. Though we don’t see much of the lovebirds’ public display affection due to royal protocol, it’s obvious that they absolutely adore each other. 

When they became engaged in 2010, the couple offered some insight on their romance, with William saying of his future wife:

"Obviously we both have a very fun time together, both have a very good sense of humor about things, we're down to earth, we take the mickey out of each other a lot, and she's got plenty of habits that make me laugh that I tease her about."
