Teenagers these days can be something else. It is no secret that today's youth are growing increasingly addicted to their smartphones. Fortunately for parents, these phones provide an ideal carrot to deter bad behavior.

In most cases, if you threaten the loss of the phone, a teenager will most likely comply with the rules. For many teenagers, there is nothing worse than losing phone privileges. The phone is the lifeline to their friends and social lives, so taking it away is a huge loss.

One 16-year-old girl from Ohio learned a hard lesson when she called the police on her father after he took away her beloved phone. However, when the authorities showed up to the house, they realized the situation was merely a dad trying to discipline his daughter.

The girl actually got off lucky in this situation. It is illegal to call 911 for non-emergency situations. If she had been an adult, she might have faced charges for summoning the police for a silly reason such as this.

Anthony Robertson probably never believed that his daughter would take it so far and actually call 911. Everyone is now wondering how long it will take for the girl to get her phone back. Surely there must be an additional punishment for calling the cops on your own father for something as minuscule as this.

The bizarre incident was all captured on video by a South Euclid Police Department's bodycam. As the officers arrived at the property, they found the father and daughter standing outside of the house. The girl immediately launched into a tirade about how her dad took away her phone, valued at $800. She claimed that it was illegal for him to seize the phone since he did not pay for it and it was technically her property.

Lt. James Wilson explained that the 911 call would have been pushed to the backburner if they had been busy. But since it was a slow day, they decided to respond to the call.

The incident began when Robertson took the phone from his daughter when he realized that she had it under password protection. The girl can be heard in the background demanding her phone back. Meanwhile, Robertson continues to insist that she is a juvenile and he needs to be able to inspect the phone and cannot because she has it locked.

The police officers sided with the father, trying to explain to the girl that her father is exercising his rights as a parent. The girl interjects that she does not even live at that home. She was just visiting her father and primarily lives with her grandma.

Despite their best intentions, the officers cannot convince the girl that everything that she owns belongs to her mother and father. One officer even goes so far as to call the phone a privilege and not a right. The South Euclid Police Department shared the story on their own Facebook page, thinking that some other teenagers might need to heed this important lesson.

The post has been liked and spread around hundreds of times. Other parents must be using this story to teach their own kids about the rights that they think they might have. Lt. Wilson said that he would be surprised to see any court side with the minor in this situation. The officials also warned about the legal ramifications of calling 911 when it is not a true emergency.

Robertson later told the media that he had not returned the phone yet. He admitted that he was shocked when his daughter actually called the police and even more surprised when they sent over four patrol cars to respond to the situation.

The father also used the situation to warn parents about how important it is to continually check your child's phone. It is easy for technologically-savvy kids these days to hide apps and keep secrets from their parents. By monitoring their phones on a regular basis, you can be sure to stay on top of what is going on in their social lives.

Although it may be hard for the girl to understand now, we all hope that one day she will thank her dad for teaching her an important lesson about hiding things from your parents. Check out the video right here:

After you have watched this video, be sure to spread the incident to everyone that you know, especially teenagers who might need a lesson about this!
