Jun 18, 2019 by apost team

An infestation by common household pests can be disrupting to your home environment. To get rid of some of those critters, you will need up to a $100 dollars for extermination services. They often use dangerous chemicals that will keep you out of your home for a while and pose a health risk for your family. To save yourself all of this, you can take steps to rid of these pests yourself using simple household methods. Here they are for each one.

Centipedes

Centipedes are food lovers for sure. If you want to prevent them from infesting your home, you can spray the household with cayenne pepper. This is a powerful remedy for them because cayenne pepper contains a compound called capsaicin. Centipedes do not like the spiciness of this compound and will do anything to avoid it. Spray generously near your doors and windows to make sure they do not enter in the first place.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are nasty and can sometimes carry unwanted diseases with them. They can contaminate the food you eat as well. If you have a cockroach nest somewhere in your home, you may not even be aware of it. They usually come out at night when you are sleeping. To get rid of cockroaches from home, you can use boric acid around the places you might have spotted one. Boric acid is deadly to them and harmless to you.

Ants

To prepare an ant repellant, you will need sugar, warm water, and boric acid. When the ants have a taste of this mixture, their stomachs will be disrupted, and they will no longer come to your home. To make the solution, mix a cup of sugar with 3 tbsp of boric acid. Add warm water to this mixture until there are no clumps left. Soak a ball of cotton in the mixture, and leave it anywhere you commonly see ants.

Spiders

Spiders are one of the scariest insects out there. To keep them out of your home for good, place orange peels around the home. This is because spiders hate the smell of orange. You can also dilute peppermint essential oil, and spray it around the home.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are very small and can hardly be seen living all over your house. If you see one accidentally, you will want to remove them as quickly as possible. You must also disinfect your home and get rid of their nests if you want them out of your life. You must also cover all cracks and seals where they may be hiding. Make sure your home is decluttered and the bed is made in the morning to keep them away.

Rodents

Rodents include mice and rats. They are not welcome guests in homes as they can carry diseases with themselves. To get rid of them, spread cat litter all over the places where they may be located. This familiar smell of cat litter will threaten them and drive them out of their hiding places. Then you can use traps to catch them.

Mosquitos

Mosquitos are something unpleasant about the best time of summer. When you do not want these pests biting you or entering your home, you can plant some herbs that the bugs hate around the house. They do not like basil, lavender, and lemongrass. You can use the essential oils of these plants to put on your skin when you are out and do not want to be bitten.

Fruit Flies

Fruit flies are lovers of fermented fruits and foods. They can even be present when your home is cleaned out. To lure them, you can combine dish soap and vinegar in a bowl. They will be tricked by the scent and stay in the water. You can also use a cut up lemon in a bag to attract them. When they are inside, you can close it off quickly and take them out.

Ladybugs

While ladybugs are cuter than most other critters, their infestation can sometimes take place. If you want to keep them away from your home, use lemon-scented cleaning products on your furniture, floor, and household items. They do not like the smell of citrus and will keep out.

Earwigs

Earwigs are critters that can enter your home through the drainage system or gutters since they love humid environments. To get rid of them, you can use cedar essential oil throughout your home. In the garden, you can attract birds through bird feeders so that they can take care of their population.

Ticks

Ticks are mostly found outside in the grass. To keep them away from your home without dangerous chemicals, you can use diatomaceous earth around your home. Simply spread the food-grade version of this product around your property while wearing something to prevent you from inhaling it. This will dehydrate them and their larvae. Do this cleaning once per month.

Moths

Moths can eat away your clothes, food, and even furniture. To keep these away, make sure you turn off your night lights when the windows are open. Keep the porch light down to a minimum. You can also put lavender, mint or bay leaves around your cupboards to keep them from multiplying.

Dust Mites

Dust mites are invisible to the eye but they still exist, and you can see them when you have dust on your furniture. To keep them from spreading, always keep your home clean. Make sure your bedding is washed regularly. You can also say goodbye to your carpet so you can vacuum more often.

Lice

Lice are a bigger problem for your hair than for your home. If you want to get them out for good, though, you can use some scents that they do not like. Be persistent with garlic, tea tree, and petroleum jelly around your home to get rid of them.
