13-Year-Old Declared Hero For Rescuing Best Friend From Drowning At Pool Party

A festive Memorial Day and birthday pool party in Hall County, Georgia nearly turned into a tragedy, except for the quick-witted heroics of 13-year-old, Kaleb Reeves. When Kaleb heard friends on the balcony above saying that Kaleb's best friend, Nick Williams, was in the deep end of the pool drowning, Kaleb's first thought was of confusion since he knew his friend couldn't swim, and would not normally even get into the water, let alone the deep end of the pool.

It seems, in the normal course of poolside antics, someone threw Nick into the water without the knowledge that Nick was not a swimmer. Kaleb, however, did know, and after his split-second of confusion, he immediately dove into the pool to save his best friend from drowning.

If Kaleb had noticed his friend in the water only a few seconds later, it may have been too late. Luckily, however, Kaleb was able to grab his friend by the waistband of his shorts in time and hoist him up to safety. An adult at the party immediately administered CPR and Nick was rushed to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital.

Thanks to Kaleb's quick intervention, Nick is going to be just fine. Nick's parents are forever grateful to Kaleb and referred to him as their "guardian angel." The people in the community are all hailing Kaleb as a hero, and Kaleb actually likes being thought of as one.
