13-Year-Old Calls Police Threatening To Run Away From Home And Tells Cop To Look Inside His Room To See Why

It’s not uncommon for kids and young teens to say they’ll run away from home after a heated argument with their parents or siblings. But once they calm down and realize that life is actually pretty good and the wide open world is a scary place for a kid, everything seems to go back to normal.

But for 13-year-old Cameron Simmons, the situation was a lot more complex and difficult than just a simple argument with his mother. Cameron made a desperate call to the police threatening to run away, but when a cop responded to the call and saw the boy’s living situation, he quickly understood why.

Officer Acerra of the South Carolina police visited the distraught teen and learned that Cameron had a fight with his mother after she yelled at him for playing his older brother’s video games. Officer Acerra started telling Cameron that he should appreciate the roof he has over his head until Cameron decided to show him around inside.

The moment Officer Acerra stepped into the boy’s bedroom, he understood the magnitude of the situation.

Cameron’s room was almost completely empty. He didn’t have a bed, desk, or video games of his own, and his clothes were kept in a trash bag. He and his family had made an unexpected move from Texas to South Carolina so his mom could care for a sick relative, which set them back financially.

Officer Acerra immediately started to share Cameron’s story with the people he knew to try and get donations, and several people donated a bed, desk, chair, a TV, and a Wii gaming system.

Cameron told Officer Acerra he was happy that he no longer had to sleep on the floor since it was giving him back problems, and the pair have quickly become friends. The kind-hearted cop told Cameron that he could contact him any time if he needed anything.

So often you hear about the police doing awful things, and amazing stories like this one get lost in the news or never heard about. Officer Acerra went above and beyond his line of duty to help out a good kid, and it’s definitely worth attention!
