13-Year-Old Boy Scout Invents Life-Saving Device To Assist People From Drowning

When Kaial Hajik, 13, heard about people drowning near his hometown of Panama City Beach, Florida, he had to do something. So he built a prototype of a device he calls the LifeBoKx, a kit with life-saving equipment that could be installed along the beach.

Living near any body of water can greatly increase drowning statistics. Panama City Beach especially has seen a large number of drownings, from local residents to first responders. Just last year, the Gulf of Mexico had seen its 10th drowning case. This was the most cases of drowning that the region had seen in the last 15 years.

Some of the drowning cases over the past few months may have been due to the nonprofit organization, 'WaterSmart Tots.' It has been reported that there have been 12 instances of children drowning in Florida throughout February and March. Clearly, drowning is one of the leading causes of death in the nation, however it is also one that could be prevented.

One 13-year-old boy scout got tired of all of these unnecessary deaths and decided to create a device that would ultimately save lives.

Kaial Hajik had heard plenty of horror stories about people drowning in the Gulf of Mexico and after a while, he became tired of hearing these stories again and again. He decided to do his best to change the situation. The result of his work was a prototype for a device that he called the LifeBoKx. This device included life-saving equipment that could be placed along the shore of the beach.

As Inside Edition reported, he cleverly inserted the first letter of his initials into the device's name, making it so that his idea could not be stolen. He created the device with the goal of trying to prevent further deaths in the gulf. He wanted to spread awareness on how to actually save someone who was drowning.

Each kit contains everything you would need to save a drowning victim such as life vests, a lifesaver, and a detailed guide on performing CPR. The reason why his idea has become so popular is that the devices are placed in close proximity to one another on the beach. This makes it easier to get to a victim in time and helps any rescuer identify where exactly the victim is.

Kaial hopes that he could soon present his device to the city council and have it introduced to the beaches as soon as possible. His father is also helping him improve the prototype and correcting any flaws in the device.

On August 20, Kaial was recognized as the "Customer of the Month" for his hard work and dedication to this project by Lumbastrobe, the company that provided his device's emergency beacon.

The Facebook post by Lumastrobe said: "Lumastrobe would like to recognize Kaial Hajik [sic] 13 of Panama City, FL as our customer of the month for his inspirational use of our LX-18 flashing strobe."

LifeBokx will surely save plenty of lives if it is implemented on the local beaches and hopefully drastically reduce the amount of drowning cases annually.
