He is a food justice advocate, a speaker, a baker and a chief executive officer – and he is only 13 years old!

One boy from Bowie, Maryland, has an incredible passion, and it is to help others.

Michael Platt wants to change the world, and he wants to do it with cupcakes.

Very early in his life, Michael Platt developed a love for baking. He has another passion too, and it is to be an advocate for all the little boys and girls who are going to bed hungry every night. He knew that he needed to bring this plight to others' attention, while also wanting them to be aware of how severe income disparities are in this country.

Michael found a way to combine his two loves into one by creating Michaels DessertsEvery time he sells a baked good, he gives one away to the homeless.

Michael says that he sells 75 cupcakes every month, so he makes more than 100 baked goods each month to have a sufficient supply. He donates baked goods to causes he deems to be worthy, including transitional housing and domestic violence shelters. He also set up shop at McPherson Square in Washington, D.C. where he gave cupcakes to passersby from all over the world.

There are always wet blankets in every crowd, but Michael shuts them down by saying that cupcakes can do a lot. When he gives someone a cupcake, he gets back smiles, happiness, satisfaction, joy, amazement and tears.

Other people knew a good thing when they saw it, so the nonprofit organization, No Kid Hungry, asked him to join with them to end childhood hunger in this country. Michael has even been invited to the set of "Good Morning America." It was a dream come true to be able to share his passion for feeding others with all of America.

Michael has lived through some hard times. When he was in the sixth grade, he was forced to leave school because he was having very severe seizures. He was diagnosed with epilepsy, and this meant that he could no longer enjoy climbing and gymnastics.

Each month, Michael chooses someone to celebrate with his "freedom fighter cupcakes." One person he recently chose for this honor was Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai for fighting for equal access to education.
