The figure skating world was consumed by its amazing admiration for Michelle Kwan and captivated by the engaging intrigue that surrounded Tanya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. But, no skater has swept through the hearts of skating fans like Alysa Liu. At 13-years-of-age, Alysa is the youngest US Champion in history, erasing Tara Lipinski's mark by nearly a full calendar year.

Not One Triple, But Two?

One astonishing aspect of her mesmerizing performance was that she was not only the fourth female skater in history from the US to land a triple axel; Liu nailed a pair of the figure skating world's ultimate feat.

She seems to have a competitive tenacity usually reserved for much more mature athletes. While it might seem like the talk of seasoned-athletes, Alysa boldly insists, "I don't skate to lose".

What possible thrills could the figure skating world be in for, as this diminutive superstar who just became a teenager six months ago improves? As the judges announced Alysa's winning score, there was a mature poignancy of a skater who, while thrilled in the moment, had loftier goals for her future.

Too Young for the World Stage?

Besides her age, Liu is still five-inches from being five-feet tall. Her overwhelming talent and small stature can't be lost on her age. Her youthful exuberance electrified fans at the US Women's Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Michigan.

However, due to some baffling rule restrictions; she will not test her talents on the world stage until she turns 15. Adding a little more intrigue to the irony is that will be the year of the next Winter Olympics games in Beijing.

This 4-foot 7-inch prodigy won't even turn 14 until this coming August 8th. The 2022 Olympic Games hold a special interest for the whole Liu family, as Alyssa's father immigrated from southwestern China in the 1990s.

We still have nearly three years of anticipation before Liu steps into the ultimate limelight of the Winter Olympics. You definitely don't want to miss the opportunity to communicate this news with your fellow skating enthusiast, so they too will have a chance to witness this tiny little prodigy who is sweeping away the hearts of the figure skating world.
