Not every story gets the happy ending it deserves, but for 13 grateful and neglected Great Danes, a happy ending came in the form of two determined animal rescue organizations and the kindness of a king.

The story begins in central Thailand. A middle-aged woman located in Lat Lum Kaeo, which is the most western district of Pathum Thani Province, had opened a breeding facility for Great Danes.

The woman's identity has not been released. But she has had discussions with Kangwan Thirathamrong, a local veterinarian about the treatment that 13 Great Danes received under her care. The woman had been planning on raising the dogs properly and then sell the animals for a profit.

But when the dogs were found under her care, they were discovered to be living in dirty conditions. The animals were found to be severely neglected and suffering from malnutrition. It is also alleged that the animals were completely abandoned and left to starve to death on the farm that had been set up as a breeding grounds. What had happened to the woman's vows to take care of them?

Apparently, an unplanned divorce had caused the former owner to suffer financially. Due to her unexpected financial struggles, the woman was no longer able to care for the dogs with as much diligence as she had been planning on doing.

Despite the claims, the woman is facing animal cruelty charges. But the story does not end there. A happy ending began to take shape when the volunteer animal rights organization Watchdog Thailand joined forces with the Animal Welfare Division of the Pathum Thani Livestock Development Office.

The organizations rescued the animals, and pictures of their neglected dogs were placed on Facebook by Watchdog Thailand.

The 13 Great Danes have received an even more impressive supporter: The King of Thailand, Rama X.

According to Bangkok Post, a spokesman from the Department of Livestock, General Somchuan Rattanamangkhalanon, stated that King Rama X had agreed to adopt the animals in order to provide the cost of the treatment for them.
