A 12-year-old boy from Joliet, Illinois suffering arduous cancer treatments had one simple wish. His dream was to own a dog like the ones he watched outside his hospital window.

Johnny had been sick with a stomach ache for several weeks, and doctors didn't know at first what it was. According to Goodmorning America, It wasn't until his third visit to the hospital that doctors identified the cause of his illness. He had desmoplastic small round cell tumors. His third hospital visit was to the emergency room because the symptoms had become severe. When his mom received the news from the ER doctor, she had already been in tears over the pain he was suffering.

Shortly after Johnny was diagnosed, he was hospitalized for a round of cancer treatments that lasted two months. One of his only ways to pass the time was to look out of his window and watch people jogging or walking their dogs in the park. He became very fond of a particular breed of puppy, and he would frequently ask his mom for one of his own. When hospital staff noticed how fondly the little boy longed for a puppy, a wish foundation was contacted on his behalf.

Little Wish Foundation has been working with children's hospitals since 2010 to provide gifts worth up to $1000. The founder of the organization, Liz Niemiec, started the foundation when she was only 16. The inspiration for her mission was her friend who had terminal cancer had a dying wish for a puppy. That's why Johnny's wish for a corgi puppy was particularly meaningful to Liz. Today, Johnny can be seen happily playing with his own corgi.
