Jaden Lehman rose to popularity when he flaunted his exceptional guitar skills in a Los Angeles guitar shop. The video of the then 12-year-old's guitar-playing was posted on Norman's Rare Guitars' YouTube channel in 2016.

How long does it take to be a guitar expert?

It could take you as little as 12 years to earn some expertise in playing the guitar. If you don’t believe this, Norm, the owner of guitar shop Norman's Rare Guitars stumbled on a young boy playing a 1964 Fender Stratocasters while he was busy scribbling a forward on a friend’s book. The boy struck that guitar so good that Norm had to check out who was behind the instrument.

Norm said in the video: “I was sitting in my office, and I was listening to somebody play, and when I walked out. I went, 'What?'” The young lad behind the guitar was none other than talented Jaden Lehman from Florida.

Norm wouldn’t guess that Jaden would be the expert exceeding his expectations. At the time, Jaden got accustomed to playing the guitar for only four years before Norm discovered him.

Would four years earn you some expert skills in what you do best? As for Jaden, with immense talent in playing the guitar, four years happens to be quite sufficient.

According to Norm, his interactions at his guitar store have earned him multiple meet-ups with exceptionally talented individuals. Jaden isn’t his first. Norm goes back in time when he met another guitarist who was twelve years old when their worlds crossed each other, as Norm explains in the video.

As it turns out, the twelve-year-old is now a successful guitarist, Joe Bonamassa. Today, Norm and Joe still retain their friendship as guitar enthusiasts. A little disclosure reveals that the notebook that Norm was scribbling before Jaden distracted him happens to be Joe’s.

Norm has been lucky to encounter prodigies in the most unexpected way. After Joe, Jaden happens to come into Norm’s store, plays the guitar remarkably and immediately Norm spots some talent in him.

In this short video, Norm introduces his newly discovered talent, young Jaden. Jaden begins by kicking into proper gear with a splendid blues style. Just like an expert, young Jaden knows where and what to touch at the right time. He passes his hands along the guitar’s neck and starts playing.

Jaden doesn’t get carried away

With some excitement, he plays some bars and calms down delightfully. Even though all eyes and camera pins are on him, he comfortably proceeds to showcase his talent, showing no signs of stage freight. Jaden doesn’t seem to be the boastful type, although he is happy to strike the guitar skillfully when requested.

It keeps getting better once Jaden plucks the guitar. You can tell that Jaden isn’t a learner from his guitar techniques. He confidently shakes the bar and ensures the extra wang sound is on point near the end. You’d bet Jaden has lived many more years playing the guitar than his body actually displays.

You can’t help but wonder what more is in store for this talented young lad from how he handles himself and the guitar. As for Norm, he is a living proof to witnessing that a twelve-year-old can chase after his dreams and accomplish them years later. If he did it before, he could do it again. Perhaps in a few years, history will repeat itself when Norm comes across another talent.

Norm gets a little envious, seeing young talent surpassing his expectations. In the video, he explains: “For us old guys, it’s sad when a young whipper-snapper like that comes in and plays like this.”
