12 Tenors is a musical group that has been increasing in popularity over the past few years. The group has been wowing concert goers across the world with their mix of traditional and modern hits, which range from Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

According to the 12 Tenors’ Facebook page, the group is particularly popular in Japan, China, and Europe, where they have already released several albums and regularly play to sold out stadiums. While the 12 members of the group come from a variety of different countries and generations, they all have one goal: to inspire their audiences with their amazing passion for music.

Part of the group’s appeal is that they continually defy expectations. When one hears the word “tenor,” one expects operatic singing. While the 12 Tenors do perform opera, they also perform songs that one hears on the radio as well. Among the groups biggest crowd pleasers have been their renditions of “Imagine” by John Lennon and a medley of some of Michael Jackson’s biggest hits. The group’s performances are also what they call a “rollercoaster of emotion.” The 12 Tenors are accompanied by an instrumental band, a light show, and perform amazing dance choreography. One of the 12 Tenors most well known hits is their rendition of the popular Icelandic ballad “You Raise Me Up.”

The song starts with all of the group gently singing the first few notes as they stand on a darkened stage. As the lights come on, one of the men steps forward for a powerful solo. After another member gives an equally stirring solo, the entire group joins together to sing an angelic version of the classic song. As the song fades, those in the crowd give the 12 Tenors a well-earned applause. Fittingly, the 12 Tenors version of “You Raise Me Up” has thus far been watched over 12 million times on YouTube.

Those who have watched the video have commented on the beauty of the group’s voices. Coralie B. wrote that she was happy to watch 12 handsome men perform such a pure, wonderful song. Tracey C. adds that she adores the rendition and could listen to it all day. As William Shakespeare wrote in The Twelfth Night, “If music be the food of love, play on.”
