Celebrating a birthday is always a fun time to gather with friends and family, and look forward to the next year of one’s life. Twins Edith Dumbleton and Dorcas Tobin recently hit a huge milestone in their birthday celebrations, but had to delay the special day for an entire year. Dumbleton and Tobin turned 100 years old on June 28, 2020, officially making them centenarians. However, due to the lockdown restrictions that swept the world and their home in England, the twins were unable to meet up and celebrate their 100th birthday together, making this year’s celebration even more meaningful and exciting.

Being twins, the two elderly women share a pretty special bond with one another and have made sure to not let anything stand in the way of making their 101st birthday the perfect occasion to spend with not only each other, but their friends and family. Despite living 80 miles away from each other and not being able to celebrate such a milestone birthday together last year, the twins were finally able to have a beautiful day as they celebrated their 101st birthday on June 28, 2021.

Surrounded by balloons, cards, birthday decorations and plenty of family and friends, Dumbleton and Tobin kicked off their 101st birthday party with a bang at a local country pub. They were finally able to be together once again and surrounded by the people they love. Not even living 80 miles apart can prevent these sisters from meeting every week. These twins proved that nothing can stand in the way of their beautiful sisterhood, making them completely inseparable.

BBC News reported that the twins were born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, just 45 minutes apart from one another. They currently live in Worcestershire, and are thought to be the third oldest twins in the United Kingdom, according to BBC News. While they both began working at the age of 14, their career paths and interests were not as similar as their facial features. Tobin went on to join the Land Army, while Dumbleton realized she was not too fond of working outdoors.

According to BBC News, the twins’ maiden name was Love, perfectly fitting for the way they care for one another as well as the rest of their family and friends. Between the two sisters, they have a total of five children, 13 grandchildren and a whopping 22 great-grandchildren. Up until eight years ago, the sisters lived together on the same road in Banbury, but when Dumbleton’s health began deteriorating, she moved in with her daughter Christine, as per the Epoch Times. Rather than being right next to each other like they had grown so accustomed to, the twins now live 80 miles apart from each other. Despite this, they still meet up every week to spend time together.

“We’ve had our ups and downs,” Tobin said about her relationship with her twin sister, but Dumbleton chimed in. “On the whole we both get on very well together,” Dumbleton said. Speaking about the centenarians’ relationship, Christine said, “Nothing seems to phase them.” Sitting with their friends and family in a country pub, the women celebrated their 101st birthday together. “What do you think about being 101?” Tobin asked her sister. Dumbleton replied, “It’s great! That’s all I can think of to say.”
