‘1000 Lbs Sisters’ Star Tammy Slaton Looks ‘Unreal’ After Getting Excess Skin Removal She ‘Worked Really Hard’ For

Tammy Slaton, best known for the hit TLC reality series “1000-Lb. Sisters,” has reached another significant milestone in her transformative health journey: undergoing skin removal surgery. After years of battling weight-related health issues and the emotional toll that came with them, Tammy, 38, is embracing a new chapter.

Tammy’s path has been anything but easy. At her heaviest, she weighed over 700 pounds and relied on oxygen support due to severe health complications. She endured a tracheotomy in 2021 after a medical crisis landed her in a coma for several days. It was a life-or-death turning point. The reality star also lost her husband, Caleb Willingham, whom she met at a rehab facility in Ohio. The two had only been married for six months when Caleb died. 

The show has documented the journeys of Tammy and her sisters, including Amy Slaton, attracting millions of viewers worldwide, many of whom are proud of Tammy’s progress. She opened up about undergoing weight-loss surgery and dropping 500 pounds, as well as the excess skin that remained afterward, which led to her undergoing skin removal surgery. Tammy underwent skin removal surgery in January 2025, revealing that the doctors removed over 15 lbs of excess skin from her body during an eight-hour procedure. Fortunately, Tammy’s recovery was swift, and she was discharged from the hospital a few days after the surgery. She revealed details of the operation in an interview, saying:

“I surprised the doctors with how well my body was healing. I ended up coming home from Pittsburgh, like, four days early.”

Tammy also opened up about the process leading up to her getting the surgery, saying:

“After six years and losing over 500 pounds, I was finally approved for surgery. I was just overwhelmed with excitement. I worked really hard for this, and now it’s here. I'm pretty sure it was noticeable on my face how immediately shocked and then overwhelmed with joy I was.”

Despite having had surgery before, the reality star was still uneasy heading into the skin removal surgery. Tammy has detailed her life on the reality show, and fans have gotten to see her weight loss journey in real-time. Naturally, she was worried about the final physical results after skin removal. 

“I was really nervous for the skin removal surgery because I was really just kind of afraid of how I'm gonna feel looking at myself without the belly there,” she said.

She explained that her angst increased the closer she got to the operation date, with fears over them cutting her belly mounting. 

“The night before my surgery, I was, like, seriously freaking terrified. I was even more nervous about having skin removal surgery than I was for the (sleeve gastrectomy) surgery because they’re actually cutting the whole belly!” 

Tammy’s weight loss has been a shock for fans, who couldn’t believe how different she looked after her transformation. However, her latest look didn’t just surprise fans of the show – her sisters were also in awe of the final result. One of her sisters, Misty Slaton, had her reaction captured on the show for fans to see. 

“Oh my God, she looks great,” Misty said. “When she started, she weighed 730 lbs. and we couldn’t even get her to walk to the mailbox. Now she’s lost 500 lbs. I mean, that’s a couple people, not just one person! I am so proud of her it’s just unreal.”
