The TLC television series “1000-lb Sisters” has become a guilty pleasure for many people in the United States, as well as anyone who can access it in other countries. It is a show that follows the lives of Amy and Tammy Slaton, two sisters who once weighed more than 1,000 pounds put together and depend on each other for support. The series depicts their hardships living as morbidly obese women while trying to find their own path to health and happiness.

“We always knew that we only had each other,” Amy said of her and her sister toward the beginning of the first season. “We grew up very poor, we grew up with fast food mostly but if we didn't have fast food, the church would give us food.” Also, unlike her sister, Amy is able to walk on her own without the assistance of a walker or wheelchair, so she was able to do some exercises, such as swimming.

While Amy began the series as the lighter of the two sisters, her motivation has also come and gone in waves. However, a major difference is that Amy, who is married, was determined to get pregnant, a goal she could only achieve if she could get her weight down.

Amy was finally able to shed enough pounds to undergo bariatric surgery, something she believed she needed if she ever wanted to get pregnant. After all her hard work, Amy's wish came true when she welcomed her firstborn son, Gage, in November 2020. By the end of 2021, she fell pregnant with her second child, Glenn, who was born in July 2022.

Amy has already gone through quite a journey but is perhaps going through one of the toughest for any mom – dealing with two toddlers at home.

Because of her weight, Amy’s second pregnancy was considered high-risk. In a clip from the show, Amy also revealed she wanted her second child to be a girl. However, when the baby was revealed to be a boy, the disappointment was clear on Amy’s face. Despite this, she said it all worked out in the end.

“The pregnancy was overall great," Amy told E! Online. "There were a few hiccups you will see play out this season on the show. The baby and I are both healthy and that's the most important thing."

Taking care of two young boys at the same time is no easy task for anyone. Add trying to juggle maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and you’ve got quite the challenge on your hands, something Amy learned the hard way. However, despite the struggles, Amy has found tremendous joy in being a mom.

“The best part is getting to see them interact with each other and get to know each other," she told E! Online. "The worst part is when I'm home alone with the two of them and they both start crying at the same time. I don't know which one to give my attention to first."

Amy was also excited to see her firstborn, Gage, learning to step into his new role as the oldest sibling.

“Gage is learning how to be a big brother. He loves to teach Glenn how to do things or he'll feed him. It all depends on his mood," Amy added.

As for whether you can expect the television star to continue expanding her family? Turns out that would be highly unlikely.

“I’m getting older. I’m already high-risk. So after this baby, I’m getting my tubes tied,” she said.
