Neck pain can be caused by many things, from poor posture to a poor diet. Fortunately, there are some simple things that you can do now that should ease the chronic pain in your neck.

1. Apply Heat

Applying heat works wonders for those suffering with chronic neck pain. Simply take a small cloth bag filled with rice or wheat, put it in the microwave for two minutes, and apply it to your neck for 15 minutes.

2. Apply Cold

If the pain in your neck is more acute and is caused by an injury, apply an ice pack to it for 15 minutes to reduce swelling. Make sure that you don't apply the ice pack directly to your skin; wrap it in a towel or cloth for the best results.

3. Get More Vitamin B12 in Your Diet

Vitamin B12 thickens the sheaths surrounding your nerves, which in turn can prevent them from causing so much pain. Foods containing vitamin B12 include eggs, fish, poultry, milk, and cheese.

4. Use a Towel to Correct Your Posture

If your neck pain is due to poor posture, roll a towel and place it against your neck. Grasp each end of the towel and pull it tight against the back of your neck while tensing your muscles. Hold this position until your neck muscles start to get tired.

5. Acupressure

You can apply pressure to certain joints and other areas to relieve your neck pain. Commonly used acupressure areas include the hollow at the base of your skull, the groove between the knuckles of your pinky and ring finger, and the area between your thumb and index finger.

6. Drink More Water

Staying properly hydrated will help keep the discs of your spine lubricated, which might relieve some of your neck pain. Drinking at least 64 ounces of water every day will go a surprisingly long way toward relieving future neck pain.

7. Sleep On Your Back

The way you sleep can affect your neck and either cause or alleviate neck pain. Try sleeping on your back with a small pillow under your head, and avoid sleeping on your stomach or using a thick pillow that doesn't provide enough support to your neck and head.

8. See a Massage Therapist

A neck massage can reduce inflammation, relax muscles, and remove salt deposits in your neck that can form when you sit for too long. All of this can help alleviate pain in your neck.

9. Neck Exercises

Simple neck exercises can help reduce pain caused by inactivity. Slowly rotate your neck in a circular motion, and move your head slowly from the left to the right and from the front to the back as far as it can go. Keep your movements slow and smooth, and don't extend your neck farther than you feel like you can.

10. Eat More Turmeric

Turmeric is a spice that can help reduce inflammation and swelling, both of which will help with chronic neck pain. Turmeric can be added to roast vegetables, rice, eggs, and tea.

These are some of the easiest ways to help relieve chronic neck pain, and most are available to everyone. Spread the word to anybody living with a chronic pain in the neck, and don't hesitate to speak with your doctor if you have any other pain-related questions.
