Sep 28, 2018 by apost team

If you’re lucky, you have people in your life that you consider your friend and your family. For many of us, cousins are the first taste of friendship we got in life.

Friendships with cousins last longer and are stronger than most friendships. They are lifelong friendships.

They are similar to siblings but you aren’t around them often enough to drive each other crazy!

Here are the 10 greatest things about having cousins close to you.

1. Instant Friendship

Whether you like it or not, you are stuck with your cousins. Your parents almost force you to be friends. However, this means its an easy start to a friendship.

You really don’t have much of a choice! You start bonding almost from birth.

2. They Are Like More Siblings

Cousins are like having more siblings around. But you tend to get along with them better because you don’t have to spend all day every day with them.

You see them often, but not often enough to drive you up the wall.

3. Remembering the Old Times

Remember that time Mitchell hit the ball into the neighbors yard? Or when we tried to get Grandpa to stop snoring with just a Kleenex? No one remembers those times like cousins do. You have so many memories you share. The older you get, the more fun it is to look back on the old times and remember your childhood.

4. More Fun At Holidays

Family holidays are fun to spend time with everyone. But what you really want to do is to get away to play with all your cousins.

You have your secret games and the time seems to fly by.

There are hours and hours of fun to be had and you even look forward to the next family function.

5. Sleepovers

Sleepovers with cousins are always the best. And your parents almost always say yes! Your parents automatically trust their parents (because they are siblings) and you can often stay multiple nights in a row.

There is endless fun to be had throughout the night and many different houses to choose from.

6. Older Cousins to Learn From

Older cousins are the best to learn from. You learn all the tips and tricks for middle school, high school, and even college.

They let you know what is to come and help you be prepared!

Often times, their hand-me-down clothes aren’t too bad either!

7. No Judgments

Unlike siblings, cousins are so quick to judge or make fun of you.

They are able to look at whatever you are going through as more of a friend.

They let you be yourself and ask for advice without having to worry about being mocked or made fun of.

8. Relatable

Cousins can usually relate to what you are going through, especially if its a family problem.

They are there for you if you need a laugh or a cry. It's like a free therapy session with someone who knows exactly what you are talking about.

Cousins are there for you when you need them the most.

9. Fun For Everyone

While you get to spend time with your cousins, your parents also get to spend time together.

They get time to bond with not only another adult but their sibling who they probably don’t get to see as much as they use to.

The parents get to have a nice conversation and spend time together.

That is, until someone gets hurt or some cousin gets in trouble. But up until then, it is fun for everyone!
