Mar 26, 2018 by apost team

There are a lot more fashion mistakes you can make than forgetting to iron your blouse or failing to match your shoes to your belt. Looking put together and presentable reflects how much you care about yourself and the situation you’re in, but the following mistakes will instantly take your look from dressy to drab if you’re not careful.

If you want to make sure you’re always looking your best, then keep reading to find out which fashion mistakes are most commonly made, and how you can avoid them!

1. Lint And Pet Hair On Clothing

Pet owners with furry friends who shed easily know how impossible it is to keep fur off of their clothes. It’s easy to just give up after a while because it feels like the fur is absolutely everywhere, but people will most definitely notice! If you have a job interview or important meetings coming up, make sure your clothes are free from any lint or air.

Keep a lint roller near the door so you can wipe yourself off before stepping out, or keep it in your car so you can clean off before stepping into the office!

2. Avoiding Ironing

Ironing is such a pain, but there’s a reason why it’s still such a common practice. Wearing a wrinkled shirt or blouse is an easy way to look messy, so try to dedicate one time out of the week to iron everything. Your clothing options will expand and you will look and feel better.

Don’t have time to iron? Throw your garment in the dryer with a damp towel to steam out some of the wrinkles, or use your hair straightener to smooth hemlines. Any effort will go a long way!

3. Too Many Accessories

There is nothing wrong with accessorizing to take your look to the next level, but there is such a thing as too much bling! A single necklace or scarf can bring an entire look together, but layered necklaces plus bracelets and multiple rings may make you look like you’re going to a fortune teller convention.

Pair statement earrings with a nice bracelet, or a necklace with one statement ring.

4. Visibly Old Clothing

Sure that skirt may still fit you like a dream, but when its color has faded and the hem has loose threads or tears, then it may be time to say goodbye. Refreshing your wardrobe feels good, and you may even feel rejuvenated from all the new fashion options.

Make sure you’re taking care of your clothes by properly separating them by color before washing.

5. Wearing Hair Ties On Your Wrist

This may have been a habit you developed as a teen, but it’s unprofessional in your adult years. Keep a hair tie in your purse or car instead.

6. Wearing Dirty Shoes

Shoes are guaranteed to get dirty, but that doesn’t mean you can’t clean them after a day out. Throw your sneakers in the washer to keep them looking new, and invest in a leather cleaner and brush for your suede shoes. You’ll be amazed how long you can make your footwear last by investing a little time and care!

7. Wearing Clothes That Don’t Fit Well

Always trust the fit and not the tag. Instead of trying to force yourself into clothes that are too small because it says it’s your size, opt for more pieces that fit your body comfortably and are made of good fabrics. The same goes for clothes that are too big; you will immediately look sloppy if you’re swimming in your outfit.

8. Carrying The Wrong Size Bag

A very large bag does not suit a professional outfit, and may look too casual with most work outfits. However, avoid carrying clutches or tiny purses that are better suited for clubs or dinner dates. A small tote or satchel is the perfect size for the office or any other professional atmosphere.

9. Clothing That Is Pilling

Blended fabrics are most susceptible to this, and it can look as messy as having fur and lint on your clothes. If you’ve noticed that your favorite sweaters or cardigans are starting to pill, carefully use a razor blade to shave off the little fuzz balls and hand wash your garments.

10. Going Out With Wet Hair

This look may work for models and celebrities, but wet hair is a big no-no for professional environments. You want to look complete and put together, not like you slept late and ran out of time to get ready. It’s understandable if it’s raining, but for the days when it’s not, blow dry that mane!
