Nov 05, 2020

On October 10, 2020, Suzie Rhodes and her two dogs, one of them a 10-month-old puppy, Decker, miraculously survived a serious accident. Sitting in her boyfriend's Jeep, Suzie and her dogs unexpectedly rolled off the side of a mountain in Colorado.

This story is just one of those occurrences that simply blow your mind as it could easily pass for an action/adventure movie!

Suzie Rhodes and her boyfriend were driving near Telluride, Colorado with their dogs. It was an ordinary, uneventful day. They eventually pulled over to help another motorist out. After her boyfriend stepped out of their Jeep, he could not believe what happened next. The Jeep was rolling over the side of the mountain, and there was nothing that could be done to stop it. What's worse? Suzie and the dogs were still inside, as Inside Edition reports.

It seemed that the motorist they were helping had never been on the mountain pass before. They were facing a sharp hairpin turn and were unsure what to do. Suzie's boyfriend was trying to be a good Samaritan so he got out of his car to help, not expecting his car to roll off the side of the mountain.

The thought of your vehicle going over the side of a mountain is truly bone-chilling, but it's something most of us never have to worry about. Like we mentioned, this is the sort of thing you see in the movies, not in real life.

The accident was caught on another vehicle's dashcam as the Jeep plummeted down the side of the mountain onto another section of the pass. At this point, the red Jeep was badly beaten up and looked like a mangled mess. Pieces of the Jeep were flying off of it as it literally rolled right in front of the vehicle's dashcam and continued down the mountain.

Can you imagine what you would be thinking if such a thing happened to you? At the sight of the vehicle, there is no way you imagine anyone surviving such a harrowing accident. The Jeep doesn't even look like a vehicle anymore.

One positive of this accident is that Suzie and the dogs had been thrown from the vehicle early on. Though she suffered severe injuries, this is probably what saved Suzie's life. Her boyfriend did not think twice before running down the mountain to where Suzie was. Suzie's dad hails him as his hero for rushing to Suzie's aid. While one of the dogs was found nearby, Decker, on the other hand, could not be found, as reported by Kiro7.

Three days after the accident, when most had assumed Decker was dead or lost, another miracle happened. Hikers heard a dog howling and barking. As luck would have it, Decker had been found! Pictures of Decker upon his rescue show a hungry-looking, but an otherwise healthy, intact pup. You can see his appreciation for his rescuers as a photo is captured of him planting a dog kiss on one of his rescuers.

Suzie suffered some severe spinal injuries and had to have spinal surgery, but she is alive. Her parents are taking care of Decker while she recovers. When discussing the day of the horrible accident, her father is brought to tears, understandably. "We count our blessings daily that everyone came down off that mountain," he tells Inside Edition as his voice cracks and he holds back tears.

The video below also shows the moment when Suzie and Decker are reunited. Suzie, in her wheelchair, plays with Decker by throwing a toy for him to retrieve. You can tell Decker is so happy to be back with his favorite person. Are you in tears, yet?

Susan Lilly, Public Information Officer of the San Miguel Sheriff's Office, told Inside Edition it's remarkable that more people weren't injured or killed when you consider the sliding Jeep, additional rockfall, and Jeep parts flying off. We cannot help but agree with her.

Can you just imagine how the people in the vehicle with the dashcam were feeling? I mean, it's not every day that a Jeep rolls off a mountain, but it's definitely not every day that a jeep rolls off a mountain in your direction! You can clearly see how narrow this section of the pass is. There is literally nowhere to run or drive.

Well, we are just delighted that this story had a happy ending and that Suzie and Decker were both okay. Have you or anyone you know ever been involved in a horrifying accident like this one?
