Aug 28, 2019

Vanilla strawberry hydrangea – the name alone sounds beautiful. If you are looking for a new bud to spruce up your garden, you would be wise to consider this striking flower.

The American Nursery and Landscape Association recently named the vanilla strawberry hydrangea its plant of the year. Known more formally as the paniculata renhy, this flower gets its name for its beautifully colored blooms. The color develops over time, starting off white but then gradually turning light pink until it exhibits a deep pink hue. The transformation is truly spectacular to watch.

This distinct flower is surprisingly easy to grow. These low-maintenance plants need a solid amount of sun to fully blossom. The plants will reach about an average of eight inches tall and six feet wide. Because of this size, they need plenty of space to grow. Experts recommend that the flower be planted at least six feet from the nearest plant.

Hydrangeas need to be watered regularly during the warm summer months. However, they do not need to be watered at all in the winter. They will go dormant and then bloom again in the spring. A good fertilizer is also a must for them.

These beautiful plants are available at most nurseries. They will add the perfect touch of color to any garden.
