Traveler Captures Spectacular Time-Lapse Of “Tsunami From Heaven”

Feb 25, 2019

Nature will take your breath away. If you're watching, there may even be moments that seem unreal. A mountaineer from Switzerland named Peter Maier was trying out film making on his recent trip.

At Lake Millstatt in Austria, he was sitting nearby his hotel when he noticed an interesting scene. The clouds had begun to accumulate in the distance over the lake.

He grabbed his camera right away and started to record a time-lapse.

He watched as the weather morphed and transformed before his eyes. Peter explains it was a short and unprofessional shot, having made a few simple mistakes. He's still learning the art of film making, but he still was able to catch an amazing scene.

The gray clouds hang low as they drift over the lake, just barely grazing the mountaintops. Moving towards the open water, the clouds begin to rain like a waterfall.

This is a phenomenon known as "Wet Microburst."

It's described as a relatively small column of intense and heavy sinking air.

This results in a violent rush of air towards the ground. The view is surreal. The video Peter caught shows the microburst with a column so strong that is looks like a solid pillar of water. The entire lake becomes engulfed in the rain before the cloud moves on.

The video is only about 52 seconds, but in that short time, it catches the beauty of nature. Not only is nature powerful, but it is also surprising. Water is one of the most mysterious and powerful forces on earth.

Scenes like this remind us how beautiful the earth is.

Peter poetically names the video "Tsunami From Heaven." The video has just exploded with views. Peter insists it was pure luck that the shot was captured. Such a rare piece of footage helps inspire and uplift the world.

Many people are so happy Peter decided to show it to the world. Help remind others of the power of nature with this story and show them this spectacular video.
