When a teenager running in a state championship cross-country race collapsed after breaking his tibia, his teammate carried him to the finish line on his back instead of leaving him.

Blake Lewis was running in the championship race when he heard his leg snap.

His tibia had fractured during the race. Instantly, he collapsed to the ground and began to scream. He told the news station that at the 300 mark, his leg started to hurt badly; at the 200 mark, his bone just snapped.

Blake's teammate Shaun Rausch immediately ran to his side.

Blake and Rausch had been running together. As Blake's mother was about to rush onto the racetrack, she saw that Rausch had doubled back for Blake. Rausch hoisted Blake onto his shoulders.

Rausch carried Blake on his back to the finish line to make sure that Blake could finish the race.

Rausch disqualified himself from the race in order to do something kind for his teammate. Blake said that the kind gesture made his day better. According to state championship rules, both runners were disqualified because contact between the runners is prohibited during the race.

Just before they reached the finish line, Rausch set Blake down so he could cross the finish line on his own.

Blake said that the moment he next saw Rausch, he gave him a hug and told him that he was Blake's hero. Rausch stubbornly maintains that he's Blake's brother, not a hero.

Disqualifying yourself so your teammate can finish the race is such a touching gesture. What do you think? Let us know and pass this inspiring story on to your friends and loved ones.
