Sweet And Affectionate Cat Spends All Day Giving Comfort To His Owner With Alzheimer's Disease

Mar 04, 2020

Bob, a retired vet has always loved caring for animals. Now, his cat Mooshu is returning the favor. Since Mooshu came into their lives in 2013, thanks to Bob's wife Patricia, Mooshu and Bob spend their days enjoying each other's company.

Bob is suffering from Alzheimer's so the affection and interaction from his cat is particularly special.

A Dreadful Illness

Alzheimer's is a disease of old age. It can be devastating. People forget who they are and what they've done in life. Roughly one in ten people will have Alzheimer's disease when they reach sixty-five. This risk gets even greater as people get older. In fact, it actually strikes about fifty percent of all those eighty-five and older. It's a terrible disease in another way too. There is no cure. There are also few treatments to help slow it down or alleviate the sufferer's symptoms, as detailed here at Alzheimer's Research UK

Humans and Animals

One of the few things that has been shown to help patients is access to an animal. Studies have shown that those with this illness benefit from having a pet around. A pet helps people with this illness feel better. They are more active and less likely to become agitated. Bob's wife, Patricia Wright, says Mooshu has had this effect on Bob.

Bob the Vet

Bob is a retired veterinarian. He's spent his whole career making animals feel better. During the course of his career, he gave animals the care they needed. However, after his retirement, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2009. Patricia found it hard to help her husband function, then she found Mooshu.

Mooshu The Cat

Mooshu is a fat gray and white ball of love. He loves to be cuddled and adored. Patricia brought him into their lives in 2013. Mooshu found his home in one place: Bob's lap. The kitty loves to reach out to Bob all day long. His soft fur and the soothing sounds he makes have proven to be a much-needed experience in Patricia and Bob's life. Bob often feels a sense of anxiety. He has lost many of his most important memories due to this awful disease. Mooshu is always there to help Bob feel better.
