Sick Man Sells Items On eBay To Make Ends Meet, Receives Letter From 86-Year-Old Who Purchased His VCR

Matt Shourky received a devastating diagnosis in 2018. On that fateful day, he learned that he had cancer. Even though he still needed to pay his monthly bills, he found it extremely difficult to work at that time.

Matt was recovering from his surgery, but he was painfully aware that he needed to pay his bills. He decided that he had to use the time that he was spending on the couch each day, so he started to sell items on eBay.

It didn't cause him any stress to do this, and it was also a way to earn some money that didn't require him to get off of the couch.

Matt had an old VCR, so he put it up on eBay one day. He didn't need it because no one really uses a VCR anymore. An 86-year-old man from Phoenix purchased the VCR for $40. It was his first time making a purchase on eBay.

Matt thought that he was going to send the VCR to the man who bought it, and he believed that the man would offer him a positive review and rating. Instead, he received a letter one day, and he excitedly called for his girlfriend to join him.

He thought she would want to see what came in the mail. Minutes after they began to read the letter, both of them burst into tears.  

The man recounted watching tapes of his retirement party that occurred 25 years ago. He had never seen these images before. He also took the opportunity to watch his wedding ceremony, and he really enjoyed the images of family and friends who are no longer with us.

He also watched his skiing trips and his children as they were growing up. Every videotape he played caused his joy to grow, and he said it was thanks to Matt for generously agreeing to sell his VCR. The man wrote Matt a letter because he wanted to let him know how much his gesture was appreciated.  

The letter meant so much to Matt that he decided to frame it so that he could be reminded daily of the old man's pleasure, but the story doesn't end there. Matt is going to write the old man back and offer to digitize his videos so that they will remain in good shape forever.
