Sep 04, 2020

Viewers are used to seeing the excited gasps and tears of joy when their home makeovers are revealed. One man did the exact opposite, and people love it. John Geoghegan wasn't excited when his wife's bedroom was given an entire makeover. This BBC video clip from February of 2015 shows that sometimes, home decoration can go more wrong than right.

The BBC show Your Home In Their Hands has made people all over the globe smile with John Geoghegan's reaction. The clip was filmed in 2015, but it has recently resurfaced. This video shows the family's reactions after handing over their home to amateur designers in exchange for a massive makeover and seeing their newly redecorated home for the first time.

In the BBC video below, the couple is first shown their living room and they both seem to love it. Then, they move upstairs with the presenter to the master bedroom. When the couple opens their eyes, they seem shocked. Are they excited? No. John looks like he's about to bolt out of the house. He seems to hate it, but his wife, Rachel, didn't seem to be so upset about the makeover.

In these decorating shows, sometimes the person decorating isn't an interior designer, or they just have totally different tastes than the residents. This happened to John, and he doesn't hide his disapproval for the new room.

In the video, he says, "No, it's too much. For me, it's too busy. I wouldn't have done anything like it. I don't like it." He also says that the room seems more like a play area than a bedroom. Other words he uses to describe the room are "horrendous" and "hideous." He also speaks for Rachel, saying, "I think it's even too much for Rachel if she was to tell the truth."

When asked about it, Rachel just says she likes the bed, the theme, and the lights. It doesn't sound like she feels the same way as John, and when the presenter asks her, "So overall, you quite like it?" she responds with a yes in the video clip.

However, John keeps going and calls it "rank." After she is prompted to share her opinion, Rachel tells him it will grow on them. The presenter doesn't seem angry but does ask Rachel to keep it the way it is. The presenter then asks John what his message would be for the designers, and John responds that the designer better not touch any other rooms. At least John tells the truth instead of forcing a smile like so many others we have seen on decorating shows.
