Queen + Adam Lambert Thrills The Crowd With Live Performance Of 'Fat Bottomed Girls'

Apr 08, 2020

Queen + Adam Lambert performed Fat Bottomed Girls live at Summer Sonic 2014 in Japan.

The collaboration between the band and the former American Idol contestant was formed in 2011.

Adam Lambert was just 9 years old when Freddie Mercury died in 1991. Since 2011, he has joined Queen as an active band member. The group is known as Queen + Adam Lambert (sometimes referred to as Q+AL or QAL).

This is the first long-term collaboration of Queen since the Queen + Paul Rodgers project ended in 2009. It was made clear that Lambert would not be replacing Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, but rather that he would be featured with the band's active members.

According to MassLive, Lambert honors his predecessor, but never resorts to mimicry. His vocals reveal modern R&B and hip hop influences, which give the classic rock songs a slightly different feel while retaining their power and beauty.

His talent shined at Summer Sonic 2014 in Japan where he fronted the band and performed Fat Bottomed Girls.

One viewer of the performance wrote: "It must be super hard for security to resist stomping and clapping along," while another said: "Adam, you have done Queen proud."

The band headlined the first day of Summer Sonic 2014. The line-up for this year's Summer Sonic is yet to be announced.
